John Lewis is now dog friendly!

Apparently it’s a soft launch,
Well behaved dogs on leads are now allowed in all John Lewis stores.
I’m not certain if any of the cafe areas have designated areas for dogs, as there isn’t any information online.
There may also be difficulties if the store is accessed via a shopping centre that only allows guide / assistance dogs.
A brave but great move by JLP - I’m just off to visit my nearest store!

That's great, I noticed when I was at the outlet centre in Ashford that a lot of shops had dog friendly signs on them. We also holiday in Norfolk and almost all the cafe and pubs are dog friendly.

Hope they’re not allowed in the cafe bit (except guide / assistance dogs). Or they’re kept to a designated bit only.

Obviously assistance dogs are different I fully accept my allergies/child’s fear come second to anyone who needs an assistance dog

Germany, Vienna and France are like this.

My DH was horrified when we sat down for a meal when holidaying and two massive slobbery dogs and their owner went to their next table.
It made my night though

I think it’s a great idea and hope all stores follow suit.
Super convenient, good socialisation/practise of polite behaviour, good for dogs with separation anxiety and I think helpful for children who are a bit fearful to see them out and about as a commonplace non issue thing.

I don't know why you would want / need to take your dog to a department store! Surely it would be happier left at home? We were away for the weekend and for the first time did end up taking our dog round the local shops - but he usually stayed outside with either dd or me. Although I did appreciate the shoe shop that allowed him to come in while I tried on shoes! I feel a department store is different though. (something also rings bells that this is not new for John Lewis and they used to allow dogs in the past.)

I’m quite pleased. I have a JL close to my house, if I can take the dog my son will happily come too. I can’t see that I’ll do not very often.

I'd rather not have pets in shops, but I don't think many people would take their dogs to a department store would they? What's the benefit?

I am very much a dog person, love dogs (although don't have any due to working patterns) but this seems ridiculous. A small village in a touristy place, little shops catering to visitors... sure, great idea to let dogs in and encourage trade. A department store in the middle of a busy city centre? What?! I can only really see these pretentious little handbag dogs actually being taken.

I don't know why your dog would want to go to JL? Why can't they do their Christmas shopping on Amazon like normal dogs?

I'm a dog lover and dog owner but can't see the point, to be honest. I think it's great that there's a good range of dog-friendly pubs around the country, but I don't think they need to be in shops too. On the odd occasion I've wanted to go to a shopping centre (rather than local shops outside which I can tie up my mutt), I walk him first then leave him in the boot of the car to watch the world go by (or snooze, if it's an underground car park and there's nothing to see!).
Some people just don't like dogs, for one reason or another, and I don't think they should have to put up with them being everywhere.

I wouldnt take ddog in, he's well behaved but big with a waggy tail. He'd almost certainly break something (and I worry enough about breaking something when I go in on my own - clumsy)

I love dogs but why??? Lovely you ho to buy a jumper or scarf thats hanging down to find loads of dog hair on it where a dog has brushed past it! etc etc. Bad enough when its busy near to Christmas and then you have to negotiate around dogs too! Plus surely they're at greater risk of having a paw trod on. Hope they're not allowed in the toilets and cafe. Ridiculous. Why woyld you need to take a dig shopping unless its a guide dog? What if 2 dogs start barking at another what a peaceful shop that would be. World's gone nad trying to be inclusive. Wonder when people will be able to shop with rabbits on leads? (cant discriminate after all... )

I’m a dog owner and I find it quite odd. I appreciate finding cafes and pubs which are dog friendly, and I understand having dog friendly little shops in touristy places, but why would I want to take my dog to John Lewis?
