Name changed so not to be outed on previous threads if people see puppy pics.
We got our gorgeous imo rescue pup, rescue say pointer x unknown hound.
Dd and DF say Harrier, I say Jura, DP says Grand Anglo Français Tricolore.
Any other guesses?
Has anyone done a dog DNA test, are they any good?

We had our rescue dog dna’d. Dogs Trust said he wasyorkie cross. In fact there is no yorkie. He’s border terrier, border collie, collie, whippet, Fox hair terrier and something else that I can’t remember.

Looks like some beagle in the mix?

Just had a look at his papers. He’s got harrier in there as well. We used viaguard, dh found it on tinternet. We took 2 bucal swabs and sent them off. Think it took about 8 weeks to get the results.

Yes beagle did cross my mind @sexnotgender .
Will have a look at them @agedknees thank you.
Thank @Icklepup.
@don'tknowwhattodo80 I wish my eyebrows were so groomed, I'm definitely a sucker for black and tan dogs. Grin.

Rottweiler or Dobermann. Both beautiful dogs !

@TopBitchoftheWitches, I've been in love with Dobermanns since watching Magnum P.I as a kid Blush .

I had my last DT rescue DNA tested. He looks like a little working terrier ( they said terrier x ) Turned out he was majority Pomeranian and American Staffie x Border collie x English Springer x Wire Fox Terrier x Parsons JRT. We used Wisdom Panel and it really helped explain his very complex personality!

NewPooch · 19/10/2018 19:55

@sulee crikey Grin. I just have visions of him reclining on a couch discussing his complex personality to another dog dressed as therapist complete with pince nez and a bow tie.
Will have a look at Wisdom Panel too, we're very intrigued.

I've heard good things about Black Dog DNA. Whatever you do don't get one that asks for a photo of your dog!

The science behind these doggy DNA companies is really poor a friend did an expose article on them in nature magazine.
Frankly from her investigation you might as well stab a pin in a list of breeders several times and save your money.

@AvocadosBeforeMortgages will have a look at that. Good point about the photos.
@Lonecatwithkitten I did see an article online but I think it was in the Guardian.
I shall have another look.
We're enjoying getting to know her.
So far we know she's a fast learner, rubbish but slowly improving recall, definitely nose driven, loves digging, lifts a paw, stops and goes temporarily deaf when she gets a whiff of something Grin.
She's fab with the dc.

The results that people report always seem to be a bit more exotic than I'd expect - particularly for strays and imports. I guess we all hope for a bit of royalty somewhere in our lineage :D

We used Wisdom DNA and sent no further information about our pup. We knew his mum was a Newfoundland and he came back as 50% Newfoundland, 25% lab, 12.5% cocker spaniel and 25% border collie. We loved doing it and found it fun to know and seemed to be accurate!

@DogInATent I don't know about royal but she's very elegant when she runs, dd says she looks like she's doing dressage Smile.
@morey I think that is the one dp mentioned.
I'm just curious, someone on our trot walk this morning asked if she was pointer cross.
Thank you everyone for your replies. WineBrew

Wisdom panel is what we used, like @morey. They send you swabs and a free postage envelope and you just send it off and within 2 weeks they post the results online

The ears and selective deafness are very pointer-esque!

@Morey 112.5% dog in total then Wink

morey · 20/10/2018 18:00

LOL!! Well spotted. Ok, he is 100% dog that's for sure. 12.5% collie Smile

NewPooch · 21/10/2018 09:11

@katmunchkin marvellous, puppy classes should be fun then.
@AvocadosBeforeMortgages and @morey she's 112.5 % being a pain in the arse this morning Hmm

OP she is gorgeous! I'd love to do a dogDNA test for our rescue. We got him as a pup from Dogs Trust. Saw mum who was mostly staffie, but not 100%. Dad is anyone's guess!

We have a beagle and her nose and ears/face definitely look hound-like!

Our pointer X was always pointing as a puppy which gave the game away.

Lovely looking dog.
