Dog has been running perhaps a bit too much recently and on Saturday morning I saw she was limping on one back leg. We haven't been out for walks since Saturday and she's spent the weekend lying on the sofa, being a bit quiet and obviously feeling sorry for herself.
The limping is intermittent and is worse when she's been sitting or lying down for a long period and she's a bit stiff when she gets up.
She's still able to go up and down stairs though, and still jumps up and down onto the sofa and my bed so she clearly isn't in agony.
This morning she seemed to feel a bit better and was more lively and playful but still limping
Normally I would be off to the vet at the first sign of anything like this - this isn't the first time this has happened, although last time was a long time ago - but this time I thought I'd wait and see how it went as last time there was nothing they could do other than give her an anti inflammatory/painkiller injection. I'm worrying that I'm being unfair not getting the injection but as I say she doesn't seem to be in that much pain.
I'm not sure how to proceed really and wondered if someone could give me the benefit of their experience with these sort of leg problems.
Clearly the rest is helping, but she's so bored poor little thing, and I was wondering if it would be better to take her to the vet for the injection, although I imagine she'd still need to rest, or carry on as I am - I had it in my head that if she hasn't stopped limping by towards the end of the week I take her there anyway.
Also, how long should I be keeping her off her walks? Is it just until the limp goes or do I wait beyond that. How do I know when she's all right to go for a short walk?
