Hi

We are desperately looking for a reputable cocker spaniel breeder in the midlands or surrounding areas.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Fonesse cockers near Tamworth is fab. Very longstanding, good tempered, ideal for pets

Thanks Ribeebie,
I'll give them a call.
Have you had one yourself from them?

I have done very little searching and don't know Fonesse so take this with a large pich of salt but two or three things I could see would gve me cause to question further:

  • they have advertised on pets4homes
  • they seem to have a few more litters than I would ideally like to see, suggesting they may be breeding to sell rather than for show
  • some of their language on champdogs makes me a little wary ("stock", "breeding team")

As I say, they may not be massive red flags for you or there may be good reasons for them that I am not thinking of. They just stood out as things I would be cautious of if I were looking so thought I would mention them.

We have a show cocker that we got from a family members bitch so can’t help you with breeders but can confirm they are the most awesome fabulous family pets. Even if ours is completely brain cell deficient.

Missbattenburg, really appreciate your comments. I share your thoughts and have avoided looking online due to the risk of puppy farming. The responsible breeders don't need to advertise.
We've had cockers before but our breeder has retired and I really want a personal recommendation and avoid the internet.

Maybe worth considering, cocker Spaniels needing homes. Plenty of pups needing homes. They have a FB page.

Always contact Breed Clubs.

I will pm details of the absolutely fabulous breeder who my cocker came from (she's president of one cocker club and vice of another and it was obvious from her pups that she puts a huge amount of work into them and gives the best possible very early socialisation. She doesn't breed often though and she only breeds solids.

Yes and other family members have, going back to the mid 90s. Ours is an adorable bouncy 2year old now and I can't imagine not having him! Smile

Champdogs website is quite good to use and to see if they have any current litters.

Kennel club website has litters currently available, searchable by area. Choose an approved/inspected breeder if possible. You will be able to check all health tests online too. Worth putting the effort in for a good pup.

@LittleBLUEsmurfHouse would it be possible for you to PM the info of your breeder? Very interested to hear more as finding a good breeder seems to be very hard!
