I don’t know how I’m going to cope without him, he was by my side for 14.5 years. We were like batman and robin. I’m absolutely heartbroken.

I am so sorry to hear this OP I do understand as I have lost 3 in 4 years. they are family and you will feel bereaved and grief stricken. Hope in time you will be able to focus on what a fantastic life you gave him and the unconditional love he had for you. So so sorry Flowers

My dog given the choice would follow me to the moon. I can't imagine how you must be feeling. Except that pts is the last act of a loving and responsible owner and very brave x

Ah so sorry OP 😢

I had my 15yr old girl pts in March and I don't think I'll ever be over it.

I have her ashes in the living room and talk to her every day, it definitely helps Thanks

Thanks everyone. I can’t believe I’ll never see him again. The house seems so empty without him. It was so sudden, this morning he was fine.

He was fine on Sunday, we went for a lovely long walk at one of his favourite places. He was full of beans, playing with other dogs and stuff.

Yesterday morning I was having a nap and he was on my bed with me, he suddenly yelped with pain which was odd as he was just lying there. Took him to work, he seemed ok, then on the way back I thought he was sitting weirdly in the car, all kind of tucked up.

When I got home I tried to take him for a walk but he really didn’t want to go which was not like him. I gave up and carried him home. Then he was sitting on the sofa and I tried to move him over so I could sit with him but he yelped again. He stayed on the sofa for an hour or so and I noticed he was trembling, then he got down and was sitting really oddly on the kitchen floor and just didn’t look himself. I phoned the vets and they said to bring him straight in. I thought it was just going to be a case of some antibiotics or something, but when we got there she said she could feel a lot of fluid in his abdomen, and his gums were pale and paws were cold. She said he was bleeding internally, probably from a tumour. She said he would be in lot of pain and there was nothing they could do.

Then I had a few minutes with him, he was wandering around the vets room and I was in complete shock. The vet came back and gave him a strong shot of painkillers which made him sleepy pretty much straight away. And then I cuddled him and told him I loved him until he’d had the next shot and was gone.

I’m a complete mess today. Really not coping at all.

Oh OP I'm so so sorry. I've been there with our family dog. 14 year old Collie mix, happened so fast. Your boy was just beautiful, and you are lucky to have had each other. Lots of love, take care of yourself.

I’m a complete mess. Spent the day crying (a lot), drifting in and out of sleep and dreaming about him, looking at pictures and videos of him, collecting hairs out of his bed and putting them in a bag, more crying, and I keep thinking I see him out of the corner of my eye.

Was scared to go to sleep last night because I knew how horrible waking up this morning would be. Woke up at 6.20am and I was right. Yesterday was awful but I think I was still in shock. Today has been far worse.

I’d give anything I have for one more cuddle.

Oh op I am so sorry. It is so hard. The first week or so is definitely the hardest but it does get a little easier every day. Flowers

God I’m sorry, that is really sudden. I remember how awful it was when the vet said there was no more he could do for our old boy but we’d had a couple of weeks notice that he was ill. Can’t imagine what a horrible shock it must have been. Take it easy on yourself, grief is a funny old thing. Flowers

😤I'm sobbing with you. I know how hard it is to make the decision you made. But please , comfort yourself with the knowledge you did it for him you did the best for him that you could possibly do.
