Joint aid for older fussy dog

My 12 yo male terrier cross had a few ops on his knees when he was young and arthritis is creeping in.
Before we go all out on Metacam, are there any joint aids that a fussy dog might have? He’s a nightmare with worming tablets - in ten years I must have tried every trick in the book to get him to eat them!
Any suggestions before I buy?!

A lot of people rave about yumove but if your dog is adept at spitting out the tablet maybe not the easiest. They do snap in half easily but it's still a tablet.

I put Yumove tablets in with their dried food and my ddogs don't seem to notice - maybe just lucky but I suspect the tablets may be quite tasty.

Mine eats yumove no bother in his dried food as well and he refuses the supposedly palatable worming tablets.

Fab! I’ve found a friend who uses Yumove for her dog so will try him on a tablet and see if he’ll eat it!!

My terrier has canine joint right , it’s a powder that I just mix in with his dinner , he’s never complained . It’s fantastic stuff and works really well .

Yumove one of the best I think. But don't fear NSAIDs...they don't develop a resistance to them and its probably better to get them on a therapeutic dose sooner rather than later when they have knackered end stage joints. It's not either/or- you can use both.
Consider Trocoxil too, that way you only have to wrestle a tablet in once a month :-) (flipside is it's a bloody expensive tablet to be spat across the floor).

Yumove. Our dog is a master at eating around tablets but he'll happily eat these out of the tub! They stink!

Riaflex Canine joint plus HA and green lipped mussel is in powder form and brilliant for joint aid in dogs.

I have recently started my dog on Flexadin. One a day. I pop it in her bowl with her breakfast and she eats it first so it must be yummy! They are a bit pricy but she has got a lot of her bounce back so it is worth it.

For any tablet coat it in a good dollop of peanut butter, shove it in & they're so busy lickingth iPB off the roof of their mouth they don't notice the meds.

Mine will both eat Yumovw tablets. Even the very elderly and fussy one.

Quick update- I managed to disguise one half of the tablet in his food and he left the other half! Will try the peanut butter trick and if that doesn’t work might try the powder!

I grind the yumove up.
He eats it fine. I think it’s because it smells fishy.
I will say however that we’ve found it makes no difference, despite having it daily for 5 months.
Although I’m currently posting on here re his joint issues as I’m not entirely sure he’s been diagnosed correctly anyway!

My dog is an expert at separating pills from food. I bought a gadget from Boots the chemist that chops the pill up and I then mix it with cream cheese on a plate. Which is quickly licked clean.

My fussy dog will eat the yumove if I pretend to take it out the treat box.

I've found these capsules from Boots are useful & usually on BOGOF. When my Oldie Goldie first started getting stiff they kept her going for a year before we needed Loxicom (similar to Metacam) & then she was like Tigger with that!

So don't be scared to go for that it really helps & she was so much happier on it , & is now 14.5 yrs slower but still moving OK!

I had my Labrador on Inflamex Canine Supplement and Proflax bone & joint herbal supplement. Both are liquid based. The proflax is oily so he quite enjoyed that. The inflamex I think is quite potent, he would occasionally turn his nose up at it and when he did I would make a dog friendly gravy and pour it over which he then lapped it up no problem.

I had him PTS in July, he would have been 14 today and he didn't stop going until the day he left us.

Yumove is great. My old boy had the regular tablets and found them very palatable.

They’ve just brought out the same formulation in a semi-moist soft chew. I imagine they’d go down well with even the fussiest of dogs.
