My DH of 24 years left the family home on Saturday, although he travels frequently for work my 3 year old lab mix has definitely picked up on this being different. Am keeping his walks and routine etc the same but he is definitely down and moping. Feeling uttered bereft myself and the (older teenage) kids also in shock and obviously upset.Anyone any experienced of this or any advice?

Sorry you are having a bad time Flowers As you DH is often away I would guess that the dog is picking up on the vibe in the household.

Look after yourself and the dogs mood will follow but also maybe (without sounding flippant) working on improving the dogs mood may give you a bit of respite.

So nice walks, lots of games and play, loads of cuddles on the sofa etc

Dogs are very clever at picking up on the atmosphere in the house and will have emotions accordingly but he will bounce back.

I am so sorry about what you are going through.

Your dog is sad for you, because you are sad and he feels it. He’s probably worried about you. My DS was very upset on Sunday and geekdog went and lay on his knee, normally he prefers to jump on him and play but he knew the difference.

Look after yourself and your DDog will get brighter as you do.

Thank you for your thoughts. We are just back from a long walk in this beautiful sunshine so that’s lifted us both a little. Hopefully we can get each other throughx
