My 18 month old dog got under my feet on Friday afternoon and I stood on his back paw. He squeaked and held it up, I checked it for any obvious injury but then was walking on it fine and wasn’t limping.

Since then he’s been licking it and now has a wound between his toes, can I just cover it up and distract him or does it need to be checked out?

Give it a soak in salty water and rinse.

Thanks @Aprilshowers And then cover it so he can’t keep licking?

Prob won't bother once it's washed - or try putting a clean sock on + a chew for distraction!!
Ddog chaps hers often in the cold but leaves them alone.

Whether you go to the vets or not (and paw injuries are a pain in the arse for taking a long time to heal) you need to stop him licking it. I prefer to use a cone rather than covering as you need air to let it heal as long as it's clean and dry.

My dog has had two paw injuries, cut rather than trod on, and one needed vet care and one didn't. Personally I would take the dog to be checked over but then I am not a wait and see person myself.

Biteyshark, unfortunately he’s too flexible for cones! He had his rear dew claws removed and he could still reach, even with the biggest possible cone with an inflatable cone behind it so it couldn’t move it on his neck. Will call the 24/7 line and see if I can get him in tomorrow.
