You could post on the puppy survival thread but not sure how busy that thread is at the moment.

Good luck with the new puppy.

I got a puppy 3 weeks ago. What kind of dog are you getting? Male or female? How old?

Pics? Smile

Ours is our second dog (same breed), so she's just slotted in easily enough, having been through it all with our first boy.

Hi everyone, we just got an 8 week old boxer pup on Friday. So far, I feel like getting her house trained will never happen!!

At the moment, we have some puppy pads in the house (which she doesn't understand the point of!). We try to take her outside regularly to go in the garden, but still having lots of accidents inside. Any tips?

The trouble is, if my partner and I are both out for a couple of hours and she is in her large pen in the kitchen, she has to go inside (hopefully on a puppy pad). Poor thing probably is so confused!

Just how quickly do they grow! Dpup has shot up and changed so much in just 8 weeks. I love seeing them get bigger and bigger. Smile

We are getting this little guy in 12 days (reliably informed by my kids who are counting down the hours).

He’s a mini poodle. Already has a name (Teddy) but it suits him so we are keeping it.

Never had a dog before! Always wanted one but I’m allergic. Then rubbed my face in some poodle puppies and no reaction!

We are almost ready. Dreading the nights!

How do you transport them home? We have a crate and that will probably fit ok in the car but but I don’t want him to hate his crate before we even starts crate training.

Do you just carry them in your arms?

It’s only a 20 min drive.

Our little guy sat and snoozed on my lap the whole 3 hour drive home yesterday. He is incredibly laid back. If I were you I would take the crate in case he starts panicking about the car so you can at least confine him so he doesn't hurt himself or distract the driver. He is very cute!

My Bonnie is home. Slept the whole 2 hours drive on my lap.

She is amazing.

Just been out and it took 45 mins but she did her first outside poop and a wee!

So proud Grin

"Anyone else got pup in their bedroom?"

Yup - Bracken has her bed next to ours, raised to the same level. She sleeps in it - sometimes. The rest of the time she clambers over DH and tucks in between us. Grin

That's so adorable!

Bonnie is in her crate with the door open. She did really well in all honesty. She did cry a few times and thought 5am was official wake up time but for her first night without her litter mates she did fab.

The breeder had her peeing on newspaper and she doesn't seem to understand that she needs to pee outside. She keeps coming inside to pee.

Any tips?

I have a permanently installed tall gate across our front doorway, so I can leave the door open in warm weather (our front garden isn't secure).

For toileting, for the first couple of weeks, I took Bracken out on a lead onto the front lawn, walking around saying, "Toilet," over and over again, till she did her business, then I praised her and gave her a treat (I kept a small pot of treats by the door for this).

She's pretty much got it now, so I just let her out on the extending lead while I stand in the doorway, no need for treats any more. She doesn't like going out in the rain, but I just shove her out there and shut the gate - that sends a clear message that she doesn't get back in until she's done toilet. She doesn't take long about it. Grin

It will come; Bracken is 4 months old now, and has the very occasional accident still, but usually only because she doesn't get let out by someone in time. She always goes to the front door now for her toilet; she understands that well now.

I got my pup on Saturday. Eight week old Working Cocker Spaniel.

It’s a learning curve after loosing my sedate 14 year old four months ago!
