Do bitches lose their appetite when coming into season?

Our 7 month old border terrier didn't fancy her breakfast this morning. This is very out of character for her.
I then noticed some spotting on her bed and on the sofa, so i imagine she is coming into her first season?

I just wanted advice on whether the food resistance could be related. Also how long does a first season normally last, and how much blood should I expect?

Thanks in advance for and wise advice.

hi! Ive always found that ours do go off their food terribly!
we feed raw, so we just try to find something that they will eat, even if its out of the container- and usually go to 1 meal a day, or less if they really don't fancy it! they will eventually get hungry, then they eat!.

As for blood, we've found it varies depending on which one it is- some won't have much color so that unless you had a male around, you might not even notice it, others do leak profusely!!

we put those waterproof bedsheet things over the sofas while they are on heat, and we also have a huge 1.5m x 2m piece of vetbed which we put over the rug in the sitting room to stop it getting covered!

length wise... probably about 2 or three weeks! again, i've found it varies depending on the dog!!!

good luck! hope she feels a bit more on top of things soon!!

Yes! Mine certainly went right off her food. I was still in the process of feeding her up (skinny street dog) and she even lost a bit of weight during her season. She made up for it afterwards though Smile
