kennel cough

The kennel has just let me know that they have had a few cases of kennel cough. Dogs have been isolated and they think it's contained. Our dog had the preventative treatment a few weeks ago. She is due at the kennel next week overnight and again in a few weeks. Should I be worried?

Sounds like she is vaccinated against kennel cough, if you have any doubts about the efficacy of the vaccine check with your vet.

Kennel cough is very contagious and your dog can get it even if they have had the vaccine as it only covers specific strains of the disease.

Would I still use the kennels? I might be tempted to look for an alternative for the overnight stay next week just to give them chance to be certain that this current outbreak is contained. However you can pick it up anywhere and the kennels sound like they are on the ball with it so I wouldn't be overly worried if that was my only boarding option.

Thank you. It is a lovely kennel, and the only one she has ever stayed in, albeit very occasionally.
