Some advice please... my lovely 18month old has been staying with his boarders for 11 days whilst we’re away. He enjoys it there but still ‘sulks’ with us when he comes home for a while. It was supposed to be 14 days but I have come home early as I have to be at a funeral next week at the other end of the country. Question: is it better to go and collect him now and then take him back next Monday until Wednesday (can’t take to funeral) or is it better to leave him there until next Wednesday? I don’t want him to come home and get used to being with us only to go back to his boarders again if you see what I mean?
Husband says he’ll be fine to be picked up and go back but what do you more experienced dog owners think?
Thanks for reading all this!!

Spaniel btw, VERY people-centred.

If he was mine I’d collect him and take him back however that’s just a gut feeling , I’ve no experience as my dog never goes anywhere to stay .

Mine does go to home boarders and I would leave him there until after the funeral.
He won’t really know how long you’ve been gone so a few more days won’t matter but he might be unsettled about collecting him and then going back
Word of warning though, your house will feel very strange without him. Due to flight times Ddog usually goes to the sitter the day before we travel and the house feels very empty

Whilst I would want to collect him I know that would unsettle him even more so I would wait until after the funeral.

I think it depends on the dog. Some would find it distressing to come home for just a couple of days and be sent off again. Others wouldn't care a jot.

I would leave him. Dogs have little concept of time, missing people happens when they've first left. He'll be happy and settled now and won't "think" about you until he sees you. Picking him up then taking him back will feel like another rejection.

Thanks all, pretty much my opinion, just wanted confirmation. And yes, house feels empty Sad
