Second puppy tips

Hi Smile I have a nearly 2 year old dog and am picking up our second puppy this weekend!

Do you have any tips for how to deal with two? We still have the crate up but my dog just uses it as a bed now so do I crate the puppy or just leave them both out? Put them both in the crate? That sort of thing.

What would you do differently?

My dog loves other dogs so I've got no concerns about them not getting on but any advice about introducing them?

Any other advice to make my life easier?

Thank you Smile

Grin good luck! It's hard work but very rewarding!
Yes you need a separate crate or separate area for the puppy. It's no good to take your dogs bed away...
I find introducing a new dog / puppy is better in the garden or in neutral ground (outside ) if you can.
Your dog will need lots of cuddles and reassure from the whole family!
Try not to change your dogs routine to much...
Think about the games you play and try to teach your puppy how to play them. My dogs ply tug of war - I teach by instigating and pass my end of the toy to the other dog... Mine also play fetch together which is a large soft toy with 3 dogs carrying it.

We got a puppy last weekend and our 5 yr old dog is already getting used to the idea but we have been quite strict. We ensure that there are separate spaces for them if play gets a bit much or pup irritates older dog(she likes to hang off her ears!) we have already worked on ‘leave’ and ‘no’ as commands and we have a crate and pen for night time to keep them separate

I got a second dog two and half weeks ago. Madam is 18 months and puppy is now 11 weeks.

It's hard but they both adore each other.

The hardest parts is getting madam to leave the puppy long enough for her to sleep. Plus the toilet training
