Recovering from male neutering op

My male dog is booked in for neutering in a couple of weeks, but I’ve got serious concerns if now is the right time because of the recovery period.
I’m worried that the school holidays isn’t the right time, because having the DC at home will make it harder to keep him quiet. We also have my DCs bday two days after the op date where we have booked an outdoor activity for the afternoon where the dog could sit and watch under a shady tree. And we are out on the evening of day 4.
I don’t feel I have much info about the recovery period - what were you advised in terms of walks etc.

For the first few days we were advised to keep him quiet and no jumping or running about. Hmmm not sure BiteyDog got that memo. Afterwards we could do short lead walks but as he was very excitable when on lead I didn't bother until he got the full all clear just under two weeks.

The day straight after he was groggy but soon bounced back although the drugs did upset his stomach so lots of diarrhoea for several days afterwards.

We did have a lot of swelling which I think was because he refused to not bounce about at home. Licking the wound was also the other issue so we had to use body suits and cones to stop him getting at the stitches.

It was impossible to keep my dog quiet/calm after his op!
The first day he felt very sorry for himself, bit of whimpering and restless.
Next day he was pretty much back to normal. We did on lead gentle walks.

I would keep the DC away from him the first day as he will still be groggy, confused and sore.
Not sure about the outdoor activity - will there be lots of people running about that could excite him? It all depends how quickly he recovers, some dogs take several days to start feeling ok, so I would think 2 days might be a bit much.

I also forgot to say BiteyDog was really confused when we bought him home and just stood and cried in the kitchen for ages. It broke my heart.

Interesting thread.
Our cocker is booked in for a few weeks time when he will be 10mo.
OP is a Friday, take him at 9am and leave him for the day.
I'm then off work with my secondary school aged kids so home for the next week, so with weekends and the bank holiday that's a 10 day period after the OP until I'm back at work and he will be left for any significant length of time.

I caught Ddog out in the garden, sitting up, head leaning on the washing line pole, asleep. He was completely out of it.

The first day was the worst, with the whimpering etc, the crying really does get to you BiteyShark!

Chasingsquirrels we got the full all clear not long after 10 days. Can't remember exact days but it was just under two weeks so that sounds ok. I think I have read that between 10-14 days the stitches and wound is healed sufficiently that there is no way it can open up assuming no complications such as infection.

For my cocker we were advised no walks for two days, and then lead-only walks for a further 10. He still didn't heal properly, and the whole process ended up taking 20+ days before he was back to normal levels of activity, which I wasn't expecting.

I had Allydog done a couple of days ago. First day was horrible. He is fine now and it’s hard to stop him careering off down the garden 🤔. We are keeping to lead walks for 10 days.
OP, by the sound of your situation it may be best to wait till end of holidays.
