Ch 5 7pm - it's all about RSPCA surveillance operation on a Manchester puppy farm and how they dupe the public.

This is a topic close to my heart so posting to help raise awareness of how they operate 🐾

Yes, I think everyone considering getting a puppy should be made to watch programmes like that.

Has it been on before, I watched one in that series a while ago that sounds like the same one. I found it very distressing so didn't want to watch it again.

There was a thread on the Doghouse recently where people who bought their puppies from advertisers on line were posting about 'knowing' their breeder was a good breeder because they saw the dogs in the home with the 'mother', as if that's the criterion by which you judge a good breeder.

I'm not saying every single dog that's advertised on line is from someone dodgy but I think you can pretty much guarantee most of are.

People just don't know how to find a good, ethical breeder anymore. The whole puppy business is over run with crooks who are peddling puppies for the easy money without any regard for their welfare.

The law on permitted and licensed breeders need a complete overhaul, but it's not going to happen is it?

Is anyone aware of any petitions or campaigns to tighten the regulations? It's something a lot of us could get on board with

Petitions of this type seem to pop up from time to time TropicPlunder and I've signed things in the past I don't know of anything that's running at the moment - although I'm sure there are one or two - or if the petitions I've signed have achieved anything. Perhaps try googling it.

Theresa May was trying to do something about bringing in a law that would require a buyer to be shown puppies with the mother present; like that's going to make any difference.

The puppy farmers will just go on doing what they do already and just bring in any female and say it's the mother; they'll take a risk that they'll be found out and prosecuted as any penalties are nothing compared to the money they can make.

If I remember correctly the sentences handed out to the people who were involved the Manchester puppy farm in the CH5 programme were a joke

It's the same when people are convicted of animal cruelty and they're banned from keeping animals for a few years. How is that enforceable? It's pointless, sentences need to be harsher.

There have been a number of campaigns by various organisations over the years to get puppy farms banned, many still running as far as I know, but they never seem to get anywhere. There just doesn't seem to be the will by the government to do anything about puppy farms.

I think the law Theresa May was trying to bring in might have been the result of a petition. I'm afraid petitions don't seem to do a great deal to improve the lot of the poor animal stuck in these places.

Sorry, that turned into a bit of a rant.
