I think the hot weather has got to BiteyDog. With daycare and agility this week he is shattered. I tried to put his harness on this morning for a quick walk and he ran away, jumped on the bed and refused to get up.

I figured that meant he couldn't be bothered with a walk and have left him to snooze Grin

We live in a hot place and Tropic dog snoozes quite a bit through the day! Energy conserving mode I guess. Unless something exciting is happening, then the seemingly unconscious form leaps into action Grin she has a bonkers hour every evening when the sun goes down, as a general rule! Hope all your dogs are managing the heatwave ok

Cheers for new thread. Aww poor BiteyDog, blimey mine would have to be nailed down before she'd turn down a walk - the only time she hesitated even slightly was when she had a ruptured disc.

I've been up since 6am trying to get some chores done before I start work (just at home today), and after her walk little dog just followed me around whimpering. What she really wants is for me to sit in my work position on the corner sofa where she can nestle and properly relax. I've given up on putting washing away and parked my arse so she can rest, the little brat.

On the plus side, she finished her egg, had about three bits of water-softened kibble, and gummed on two tiny corners of buttered toast. I've cleaned the carpet so I hope she doesn't throw it all up again.

Tropic mine suddenly finds his energy if I pick up a ball to play with Grin

Radio BiteyDog has a habit of trying to lie on my laptop when I work which is kind of annoying Grin. Hope RadioDog keeps her breakfast down this time.

Not only has it stayed down, she's eaten half a portion of softened kibble on top.

I think she's hungry but her mouth must ache. She's a bit quiet and mopey but looks more like herself today, yesterday everything about her looked wrong. You know when you know your dog so well, that you can see when their coat isn't sitting right or their eye shape looks wrong? I think she felt sick and in pain last night, her eyes were glassy and had that triangular look.

She's on the mend anyway.

That's good that she's better Radio. Yes I know that spaced out look they get after anaesthetics Sad

BiteyDog is currently hogging the fan. I'm sat here sweltering and he's nice and cool.

I’m going away this weekend, and SquirrelDog is going to stay with one of his trainers (who he loves) and her young dog (who he loves) and her old dog (who he loves - the feeling is not mutual I don’t think, he’s a bit too full-on).

Last time I went away he was REALLY CROSS with me when I got back. This is only 3 days so I’m hoping he’ll be less offended Hmm.

Hope he forgives you Squirrel although you will have to make it up to him Grin

Squirrel, what was he doing and how long did it take him to forgive you?!

Squirrel you're going to need the best treats!
Today was AWESOME! Madam Wolfie qualified for Crufts at Windsor Champ Show. Really proud of her and how she behaved.
Although I've completely knackered my Achilles running her and had to ask the breeder to run the last class. Shock

Oh wolfie - congratulations!

Beyond proud! Even managed to leave her tethered (around other people I knew but not being watched over) whilst I went to the toilet. (Not far away but this is a dog that wouldn't wait when I tried to take a step away as a pup!) and she was attached to a fishing brolly. She could've followed me but didn't. Grin

Congratulations Wolfie and wolfiedog! Look forward to seeing a wolfhound winner at Crufts next year👍
Radio, know exactly what you mean about coat looking not right when they are off colour. Cocodogs face also looks pinched and triangular when she is feeling unwell or very tired.
At the moment though I spend quite a lot of time picking grass seeds out of her fur, I had forgotten how many she attracts at this time of year. Still better than mud though!

Dogs are such masters of pulling the guilt trip. BiteyDog keeps running off with one of the balls and looking oh so so sad when he thinks ball play is going to stop. He very very reluctantly puts in on the floor eventually and gives me the biggest soppiest eyes. Seriously stop with the guilt!

Oh well done Wolfiedog!

Tropic it took him about a week, I think, although then he was actually more settled then he ever had been - think it reinforced that this is ‘home’ now. He wouldn’t greet me when I picked him up, didn’t sleep on the bed the first night back for the first time ever, and when I took him to training the next night, he refused to work, and just stomped around exuding hard done-by-ness Hmm.

I've been taking madam out for a walk in the evenings. Usually around 8pm since it's been hot.

She is now expecting this and yesterday I got the stare from around 6.

As soon as I started to move, she would go mad and at one point even managed to headbutt me in the face Hmm

Crazy dog.

Ended up walking her earlier yesterday just to shut her up.

there was something on the radio about not walking your dogs in the heat, they might get too hot etc.
There, out of the back door, is steppedog lying in full sun, asleep.

You know what they say about mad dogs and Englishmen....

BiteyDog is still his usual ball demanding self. We have been limiting it to a few mins at a time in the garden to areas that are in shade. He wants more but it's too hot so I just get huffed at a lot Shock

Cocodog is having her usual routine but shorter walks and playtime with more resting but am doing a bit of training indoors with her and giving her ice cubes with treats frozen inside etc to encourage her to rest in the garden. She would chase a ball until she expired if we let her though!😬

New to the thread! Hi from Lenny who is also not a fan of the heat! We have now purchased a "cool mat" for him. What's the betting by the time it arrives it will be clouds and rain again?
