How often do you bath DDog?

DDog smells pretty bad, very very doggy. Just wondering how often does everyone bath their ddogs?

Only every few months. It's bad for their skin and fur to be bathed too often.

I've found that what food a dog is on can hugely impact on how they smell. Both my dogs came on royal canin and smelt very "doggy", they stopped smelling doggy once on a better quality food.

Not often he hates it. A walk on the beach and a dunk in the sea is better if you are near the coast. We try and stick to the beach in winter when it's very muddy but also use an equafleece which is a godsend

Thanks both. We have kept DDog on food breeder recommended which is skinners. Is this no good? Can anyone recommend what's best please?

Very rarely, but they do get hosed down a lot in the winter when they’re really muddy, and they get washed with the hose if they’ve rolled in something hateful. That’s it really, this time of year they don’t really get washed at all.

I think some dogs just do smell more doggy than others. I’ve got two dogs, both the same age, both eat the same food, one is a bitch and one is a dog although both neutered. The bitch smells much more doggy - I can’t really smell the male dog at all.

I was about to say smell is usually food related (ie poor food) but Skinners isn't all that bad (if it's field and trial anyway) though there is better.

Do you give him wheat based treats at all?

I feed my three Skinners F&T and they are only bathed if they roll in Fox poo - though they get hosed down after the beach to get rid of the sand and salt.

OP I hose mine down with water when muddy but he does get a shampoo every 5-6 weeks when he goes to the groomers.

I've got two litter mate terriers. One stinks even a few days after being at the groomers, the other doesn't at all. They have identical diet and no treats. They go to the groomers every 3-4 months and are never bathed in between. ( I did try with stinky dog for a while but it made no difference after a couple of days)
I have a neighbour who baths her white fluffy poodle type dog after every walk in the winter!!

On average all my dogs have been bathed once or twice in their lifetime 😆. They get brushed everyday and I handstrip the coat every few months. I guess they do have a doggy smell, but their coats and skin have always been healthy.

matchingpjs it could be that one of your litter mates just doesn't suit that food. I know when my dog's stomach is off he does smell more.

My old doggy was 17 when he died and probably only had 10 baths ever! His skin really suffered. However the sea was amazing at cleaning him up and we did go to the seaside every few months. Once he came back from kennels smelling very fragrant but with itchy skin. I didn't send him there again as they should not have used anything on him without checking with me. He was never smelly until he got very old.

Every week as she sleeps in bed with me. Her skin is perfect but I use a no flake sensitive shampoo and she has salmon oil in her Lily’s kibble twice a day.

She’s low to the ground (terrier with a beard and a massive skirt) so she gets everything trapped in there.

Every few months here for a scrub with shampoo (we're in a very buggy, parasite place, otherwise wouldn't). But she LOVES a hose down or a dip in a paddling pool! It helps if washing becomes fun

About once a week. He gets dirty when he goes out on a walk. Smells eventually too

I've only bathed mine once. When we got him, he was born on a farm, and stank of horse shit.

He's almost 10 now.

I clean his ears, and fine comb him regularly, he doesn't smell

He gets showered about once a month - he has long fur and during winter his feathers get very dirty; in summer (when he doesn't get a wet belly from walking) the pee gets caught in the fur around his willy. He's kept groomed fairly short around there but it still start to smell a bit.

Oh, and he came with Skinners too: it gave him the most awful wind and I was glad when it was all gone and I moved him onto something else (raw complete).

I'm sure you have, but just in case, have you checked his/her ears?
Sometimes the "doggy smell" can be down to something like that.
I've also used these wipes before as they are kinder to the skint than a full wash every few days...

Prob about once every few months. Depending on smelliness. Has a large indoor dog. Couldnt cope with a smelly dog in the car. Parents outside only dog is washed once a year. He reeks but it's not noticeable as he's never inside or in the car.

Hardly ever. I dip her into a bucket of warm water without shampoo if she gets muddy on a walk but that's just her paws and undercarriage - she's small with short legs and long fur so I realise she probably not going to smell quite as strongly as a large dog.

She's 7 years old and has probably had no more than 3 proper baths in her life - one of those was fox poo related. I groom her perhaps a couple of times a week.

When I bury my nose in her fur she just smells slightly perfumed, which i assume is something she picks up from me, although she isn't a cuddler so not sure how that works.

Mine goes to the groomers every 2/3 weeks for either a bath or a clip and I wash inbetween times if he’s rolled in something smelly , he always smells lovely and he has no problems with his skin

Mine hasn’t had a bath since he was a puppy. Non stinky whippet and even if he gets dirty he self grooms like a cat so his white bits stay white

We saw a doggy dermatologist who confirmed that regular bathing is a very bad thing.
I rinse mud off legs and wash tripe out of beard. Washed bits with warm water when in season (she liked that!) The only time I've washed any bit was when playing in a shitty field made her reek!

Proper baths with dog shampoo? About twice in the last year, both times after he rolled in something nasty.

His skin and fur are fine, and he doesn't smell. Try giving him a nice warm bath to splash around in (ideally with a toy that floats eg a ball) and see if it improves things.

I feed my spaniel Harrington's grain free we switched from aatu and he is much calmer.
