So we have just put down a deposit on our newest addition. He's a 1 week old Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

We already have a 1 year old Patterjack and have wanted to get him a companion for sometime.

He's due to come home first week of July so I'm trying to prepare as much as possible beforehand.

Few questions:

  1. How hard was it to go from 1 dog to 2?
  2. If you have a staff, how did training go?
  3. Do you have any top tips on training?

Thank you in advance xxx

My top tip? Sign up for good quality dog training classes - you can put his name down now. There are no qualifications needed to call yourself a dog trainer, so quality can vary enormously. Look for someone who does positive reinforcement training, and who has qualifications - APDT or IMDT accredited, Dogs Trust Dog School, etc. I found training classes invaluable.

How did you find training your first dog? I think we all learn a lot first time around and I know there are things I'd do differently second time around!

BTW pictures will be required. It's the law on MN Grin

Thank you for your reply @AvocadosBeforeMortgages

We've been looking at training classes and have found one local to us so will be giving them an email this week.

First chap was quite easy to train, we hit a rough patch around Christmas with him chewing everything and are still currently working on that but in regards to basic training he did really well. X

Introducing the second dog to the first wasn't too bad but you have to make sure the new dog doesn't overstep the mark and annoys the first one. Any unwanted behaviour must be corrected and not allowed to develop.
Like with any breed of dogs training, socialisation is a must.
I also used the one second rule.
You only have one second to correct when they do something wrong and one second to praise them when doing something right. And be persistent and consistent.
Staffies are loyal, intelligent and playful dogs.
They can be very testing so you need to keep them active physically and mentally.
