Does anyone know a good breeder of Bedlington terrier X whippet?

You can’t ask advice on breeders on MN!!
They’ll tell you there is no such thing as a reputable breeder, all crossbreed breeders are puppy farms etc.

Why would anyone cross breeds? Especially anything with a tiny boned whippet??

There are many advantages to cross breeding, coat type, size etc

Beds and whippets are quite similar so not sure for this case but if that’s what she wants, then there’s no problem with that.

I've never heard of anyone crossing these breeds to be honest! I can't imagine what they'd look like.... Anyway just make sure the breeder has health tested both parents and ask to see both of the parents.

A bedlington is a terrier and a whippet a hound so a cross is basically a lurcher. The Bedlingtom whippet is very popular and I can see why they are lovely looking dogs. Can’t help you with finding a breeder as everyone I have met have said they got them from gumtree .

They’re mostly used for poaching...so, um, not usually the most reputable people around tbh.

They quite commonly come up in rescues though, if that’s any help?

This is a popular cross for working dogs. I would love one to. There’s a Facebook bedlington whippet appreciation page which sometimes has litters. Some look dodgy some not.

I would have thought anyone deliberately breeding these would be into illegal hunting :(

I must say that a bed/whippet is my favourite type of lurcher but they are essentially a working cross with very high prey drive. Lurchers are in a completely difference category from oodles and poos - lurchers are breed for a purpose, oodles and poos are only breed to make money from dogs with silly names. You will probably be able to find a bed/whippet lurcher in rescue, it is a very popular lurcher around where I live. They love to work which sadly means that they end up being used by people for illegal means. On the other hand they can make lovely pets providing that they have lots of mental stimulation, and time running free.

They are a perfect, popular cross and make beautiful little lurchers. Very unlikely to find a 'proper breeder but as pps say, there are a lot about. They tend to be working dog crosses rather than show dogs so the parents are less likely to have inbred conditions and the people with litters to sell are very often the pet / working owners of the parents. They don't tend to be puppy farmed like the popular poo type breeds because there's simply not the demand.

You might like to try the Bedlington Terrier Rescue - they have an FB page and sometimes have crosses in as well as pure Beddies. The advantage there is that the dogs are all assessed so you'd have some idea of suitability for your family circumstances and they provide loads of support and back-up to adopters (no, I haven't adopted from them - but hoping to once lunatic poodle boy has matured a bit more!!)

This is what a bedlington/whippet looks like, for those who are interested!
This is my parents dog, he’s one now and the most gentle natured thing, requires a lot of exercise though!! I’m not sure which breeder he was from but I know they waited a while for him.

Adorable! Looks like a fuzzy lurcher but I would imagine smaller.
