2yo spayed female suddenly peeing in house

I wondered yesterday morning if the dog was quite herself, as she was curled up more than usual. She's been very tired for days, but has also had a lot of exercise and entertainment with a friends 6mth old pup. Behaviour the rest of the day was very normal, peeing and pooing as standard.

We popped out for 2hrs yesterday, and came home to an enormous puddle on the floor. It didn't smell of urine, but couldn't have been anything else (checked for household leaks, open windows, knocked over forgotten glasses etc). Didn't tell her off or anything - if she's bursting for the loo and we've gone out it's hardly her fault. So cleaned it up and carried on as normal. She'd been out for a big pee before we left the house.

This morning, I came down early to find she's wet her bed - absolutely soaked it. Again, no other explanation.

She's currently curled up beside me on the sofa. Not eaten her breakfast yet (entirely normal, she's a fuss pot) or had a drink (also normal, she's a camel), 2 big poos, but no pee since I got up at 7.

I'm thinking vets, but if I'm honest, financially it would be easier for me to wait until tomorrow and go to the normal vet but also don't want to leave her in pain if she's likely to be hurting.

Any suggestions?

Yes, that's what I wondered. I'm not going to leave her alone today and will be watching any peeing closely to see if she's struggling or straining.

Is there a doggy equivalent of the sachets you can buy in supermarkets?

Bitches don't strain to pee with a uti like we do. Take a urine sample in a clean poly bag for a dip stick test at the vet. She probably needs a course of antibiotics.

I had this with my GSD. She suffered from urinary Incontinence after being spayed. It is an issue which can occur if it's done too early. She had to be medicated for the rest of her life.

Hopefully yours isn't that though

She was spayed just before her 1st birthday, midway or so between seasons. That was 15 months ago, so I'm hoping not linked!

One of our previous dogs became incontinent after being spayed, it’s not that uncommon, she was also medicated for the rest of her life. Hope she’s ok and it’s just a UTI

How long after spaying did the symptoms start in your dogs?

Mine was 17yrs ago so I can't remember exactly but I don't think it was straight away, maybe when the next season would have been.

Urinary incontinence would usually show as little frequent dribbles of urine, not odd occaions of large puddles. Had she drunk loads before these episodes for some reason? Is she drinking more in general? Yes to going to vets with a urine sample. Very likely to be cystitis, especially as she is quieter. Could be diabetes if drinking more too?

Ours wasn’t straight away either. She was a rescue who was spayed before we got her, so I don’t know how old she was when it was done, but we had her a while before the incontinence started, maybe a year?

If it's a UTI you do need to get to the vet.

Sorry to disagree missmouse, but ours would leave large puddles. In the end we covered her favourite sofa with a waterproof mattress protector and several layers of sheets and blankets, and just changed them very regularly

Being able to hold large amounts of urine is not usually associated with incontinence? Was it a bladder sphincter thing she had Costa?

I don’t remember exactly, it was a long time ago, but she was on propalin syrup until it stopped being effective
