Wire hair dachshund or basset fauve de Bretagne

Humour me - doing some hypothetical dog dreaming. Which would you choose and why?

*expecting more in favour of the dachshund due to expected higher levels of ownership!

Don't buy a dachshund.
Twisted legs, and horrendous back problems.Many are paraplegic later in life. Poor things.

Neither of those. For a 'small breed' I'd go for Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen. They have less problems than the breeds you posted and are the sweetest dogs.

In all honesty for me its an English Setter. I've had them before although we swapped to cockers as we wanted to down size. I'd have my setters back in a heartbeat but I need a bigger house for them now my dc are adult sized.

Ooh, the petit basset looks like another contender... can see why you called that! Suspect too 'teddy bear' like for DH though.

Our dogs have got smaller over the years, I don't think I could ever drop to a toy breed but I def couldn't go back to a large dog.
