Outside my house. Country road, they probably didn't think I could see them. The dog wanted to sniff in the hedge, one girl whacked her- not just once, but absolutely viciously battered the poor dog. They walked on, it happened three times that I saw :(
Turns out they are neighbours, so suspect their mother will be round :(
Don't know what else I could have done, I couldn't just let it happen :(

If you know who they are / where they live, I'd be calling the RSPCA and police as they've committed animal cruelty offences.

I suspect nothing changes for the dog. Dd saw what happened and was really upset so partly I wanted her to see that it's OK to challenge that kind of behaviour. It's not a police or RSPCA matter - dog is fed, has shelter and is occasionally walked.

I would still report them to the RSPCA op. Maybe they will have to investigate and that might frighten them a bit. I would have done the same and I would also have a few choice words for their mother should she come round!

I’d have removed the dog from them. No chance I’d ever let someone get away with hitting a dog. I’d phone police and anyone else that could help. I’d also tell the mother I was reporting to

If you saw a child being viciously battered would you not report it? Why should a defenceless animal with no way of speaking up be left to fend for itself.

And, yes, filming it would be ideal (if you can do so safely) but just because it's not on tape doesn't mean it's not worth reporting.

The RSPCA do take beating a dog seriously. On a recent episode of the dog rescuers someone had filmed a neighbour beating his dog and they took the dog and prosecuted the man. I know you didn't film it but if you are concerned they will keep doing this you can still report it.
