Present for friend who has lost her dog

My best friend had to have her dog put to sleep yesterday. He was 13 and poorly but obviously she is devastated. I would love her to get her a little something to let her know we are thinking of her but not sure what is appropriate? Would something with her dog's name or photo be suitable? Thanks for any advice!

What breed was it? Maybe get a stone ornament of one for her garden?

A nice canvas print of a photo from when the dog was well? Think I’d really like something like that.

What mol1628 said. When my beloved dog was PTS I had a canvas print done of my favourite photo of him and placed it by his ashes (which were in a lovely wooden box)
I would have appreciated this as a gift from someone else - prepare for tears though Sad when it is given.

Thank you for your suggestions, much appreciated. I will have a look at those ideas.

Op, ask your friend. I would suggest you tell her you want to do something like that and ask if it would be ok. My parents lost their cat recently and I was going to get a cushion with his face printed on it as he loved lounging on the sofa. Asked my dad for some nice photos (didn't say why) and mum told me looking through then was too much for him, he couldn't cope. A cushion would have been awful. He appreciated the thought but it hurt too much.

It sounds like a lovely heartfelt thing to do but not everybody will be in the right place for a keepsake.

A canvas print or picture is not the same as a cushion.
I love the picture of my beloved dog - to remember him by and talk to him if I am passing. That said I would not have a cushion with his photo on.
OP perhaps run your plan past your friend - not everyone has the same reaction..

Good plan, thank you. I will talk to her first.

Something for the home is too personal, I think. I don't like buying people presents for their home as you're never 100% they'll like it.

After my old dog got PTS, I couldn't have any pictures of her up anywhere for a while so a picture on anything from someone else wouldn't have been good for me.

I just wanted people to acknowledge that I was upset and in pain and that she wasn't "just a dog". Just a little something that you know your friend will like to say "I'm thinking of you" would be perfect (i.e. doesn't have to be dog-related)

I lost my beloved lab in December. My husband got me a snow globe made with my dog's picture in it, which was gorgeous throughout December. I cried when we put the decorations away, but it will be out next year. Another friend, the who had lost her dog recently, had a cushion made with my dog's picture on it. It made my bawl, but I loved it. It doesn't really go with the house decor, but it will be going in the caravan and coming on holidays with us and the other dogs. Even though I wouldn't have chosen it I still love it.

I've enough photos of her if I want those up (I'm the opposite of Gameoldbirdz, I have pictures of her up everywhere at the moment). I speak to them all every time I go past pictures. Perhaps a nice frame that she can choose the picture from?

I've previously had keyrings made for friends who have lost dogs that were hand printed stainless steel and said "Dogs leave Pawprints on your heart" they had a little silver heart attached with their names on.

Another thing I love, is we planted a Xmas tree over where we buried her in the garden. I go down to it everyday and tell her I miss her. Perhaps I'm weird! But a plant for the garden is an option.

But as has been said, a hug and a bunch of flowers to show you're thinking of her will be more than enough.

When we had to have our dog pts my lovely friend ordered some perennial bulbs for me that were in the name of my dog. When they flowered last spring, in the pots next to where she used to lie in the front garden, it was lovely and I can't wait for them to come out again this April. Was definitely the most thoughtful thing anyone could have done for me.

What about a photo of her doggie in a crystal cube www.dfordog.co.uk/3d-photo-engraved-crystal.html I have one of my Berkeley and it is so lovely. It is a bit different, something to treasure and appropriate Smile
