Part time ownership of Eric is breaking my heart, I need a dog here permanently who will be happy with regular visits by Eric.
So what I can offer besides a sofa and a lot of time is large house, small garden fully enclosed situated next to a park and trails. Happy to walk a couple of hours a day or at least one hour morning and evening and plenty of places to go off lead here and lots of dog friends to play with.
Family situation is myself, adult son and teen daughter with someone almost always at home but enough willing dogsitters if required.
I love poodles and prefer non shedding dogs but not terribly fussy. Would like a small and preferably female (Eric likes the ladies best) dog, not a puppy (hated the puppy years) but not elderly because I'd want to walk them with Eric at times and he likes a bit of a trek.
So do your worst, oh we're in the midlands but can travel if needed.

DoodleTrust also have poodle crosses

Cavaliers in Need is a good rescue who foster all their dogs and have all kinds of smallies including a Chinese Crested at the moment. They do rehome outside Northern Ireland where they are based.

He's not a poodle, but Dooley Mouse is a gorgeous whippet who wouldn't shed a lot, and would love a home with someone with lots of time to give him

Ooh Dooley Mouse is a sweetie I love his ears. He likes to play with other dogs which is vital as Eric is here regularly and he loves to play. I know nothing about whippets though so can I ask would they be happy to walk for an hour a couple of times a day? Happy to cut it down when I don't have Eric but when I have him he likes a good walk. Am I going to be able to let a whippet off lead to chase and play with Eric and his pals? Eric plays with quite a large group and has a lot of stamina are whippets quite delicate? It's just that there are quite a few springer spaniels and they aren't exactly known for their grace tbh (charging clodhoppers would be a good description) although they are friendly and they have never hurt Eric who is tiny in comparison. Lots of questions I'm sorry.

I don't know Dooley personally, but none of the things you mention would be likely to be a problem. Whippets can look delicate, but they love rough and tumble play. Give Pip or Linda a call and they'll be able to tell you lots about him - they love to talk about the dogs

Have a look at alldogsmatter.co.uk

Griff is super cute, as are lots of the dogs, and they get new dogs in almost every day.

Good luck!
