An update on our home check and lurcher pups

Well, an update. We passed our home check which is nice, but the rescue have rightly raised a few concerns about the time we can spend with a pup which will probably have "additional needs" given they've been hand reared. They are also staff-cross lurchers and will need a fairly immense amount of exercise as they grow which we will be able to offer 3 or 4 days a week but not full-time.

With a heavy heart we have acknowledged that they are right and we are probably not the family to take one of these pups. We will wait. I still think the rescue route is the right one so we may have a long wait but we'll see how it goes. I have to confess I am majorly impressed that they have been so frankly honest and haven't just given us a puppy - we would have taken one and would have coped but in retrospect would have found it overwhelming and it wouldn't necessarily have been a good experience for anyone.

So, I'm not sure how I'm feeling about it really. A bit despondent but still hopeful...

Its much better that you wait for the right dog for you, and that you are the right humans for that dog than having a failed adoption tbh.

How about Jinxy? I know his foster mum (she adopted the mum of my ddog2, and we foster for the same rescue) and Jinxy is a sweetheart. Or there are more puppies coming in all the time

I'm sorry that this hasn't worked out OP but it's lovely to hear the rescue wants to find the right home for these puppies. I'm sure you would have coped but much better to find the right dog. I have had many disappointments over the last couple of years but I've finally got my heart hound. Trust me. It will all be worth it.

Thanks Wolfie - I'm sure it's the right decision and yes, it's great to hear that the rescue have the dogs so central to their decision making - really encouraging.

We will wait - there is no rush.

FlippetyDip I am looking for a rescue dog too and it is hard waiting for just the right one, but I think it will be worth it in the end. I have yet to even make it to home check stage as there aren't many dogs that fit what I need (cat & child friendly). We will get there though! I hope you find the right dog soon.
