My Puppy has been horribly attacked today. So shaken up.

Took my 12 week old cavalier out with DD to the beach this morning. Puppy was on its lead when a dog not on a lead just ran up and attacked it. Just bit hard on its nose and kept shaking and shaking my puppy. I was shouting for the owners to help and trying to get it off but they didn't do anything. I kicked at their dog and lifted by puppy up by his harness but the other dog jumped at me and just kept attacking. They were in their 60s. I got the dog off once and it went for and attacked my dog again. Their dog also bit me.

They wouldn't give me their details which makes me think this dog has done it before. But I got a photo of them and their dog which another dog walker took. They then rushed down to the sea and tried to wash all my dogs blood off their dog .

I was so scared that the dog would also bite my daughter. I feel I should have demanded more details from them. But the man only put the dog on an extendable lead and it was still snapping at us and I felt I just had to get away to protect my daughter as he clearly couldn't control his dog.

My poor puppy it at the vets it has a broken leg and the other dog has bitten right through its palette. I've had a tetanus and the nurse prescribed me antibiotics.

I'm so shaken up and feel so guilty about my poor little puppy. I don't know what I should of done though? I just can't get over a seemingly well to do couple just leaving me on the beach with a bleeding hand, carrying a terrified child and a puppy pouring blood.

You need to report it to the police as there may be CCTV as this dog could kill another dog or a human life.

Your poor puppy- is it ok? What did the vet say?

That's terrible, have you rang the police?

You should tell the police.

Oh OP that is awful for both you and your poor puppy. Unfortunately there are some awful people out there who either cannot or worse choose not to control their dog and it sounds like the latter because if my dog attacked another dog I would be mortified and help them.

I would go to the police with your photographs and make it very clear the dog attacked YOU as well as your puppy because I fear they won't take it as seriously if you just mention it attacked your dog.

I hope your puppy makes a good recovery. Flowers

Yes I've reported it to the police. They took it very seriously and are going to try to find them.I've also called the local dog warden.

No CCTV unfortunately. I checked that with the police but they are going to look further along the road.

The other dog walker after helping me went back to find them but they were long gone.

I'm south coast.

I hope you manage to trace them and they are made to face up to what they have done. In the meantime, I hope you and your puppy make a full recovery.

The police said that as the dog attacked me too it was a criminal offence and they had also failed to stop and give details at the scene of the crime so that gave them greater powers to track them down.

I got puppy to the local vet within 10 mins and they stabilised him and referred him to a specialist 2 hours away which DH has now taken him too. Just waiting for an update.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I'm betting it isn't the first time their dog has done this. Don't forget to get your bite looked at and document all injuries. Hope your pup is ok.

I hope you find them OP.

I hate walking my dogs in public as the amount of disgraceful dog owners around is shocking. Mine was attacked as a puppy and I was terrified as was he, sadly he is now aggressive to dogs because of it. Like you I didn't have a clue what to do either so I just kicked and shouted at the other dog!

Could you post the photos on Facebook in the hope of shaming them into coming forward?

If found you should be able to claim back the vet fees! Your poor dog!

I've been snapped at by dogs while out running on a few occasions recently. I'm fed up with irresponsible dog owners. I hope your poor puppy and DD are okay.

Hopefully the police take it seriously- if not post what happened with a picture on social media and ask your local paper to cover it too so you can trace the owners. There dog needs to be PTS.

That's awful and shocking behavior on their part. I am glad the police are taking it seriously, God forbid next time it could be a small child their dog attacks.
I hope you and your puppy make a speedy recovery.

This is TERRIBLE!!!!!!! I hope they get caught and get the worst option of punishment. This is fucking nuts. How did they react? Did they even react? Jesus Christ. So inspired that you have taken a photo though I imagine you were terrified.

Please update :(

Hope they catch these awful people. Hope you and your puppy make a full recovery. How is your DD coping?

That's so awful! Post the pictures on Facebook see if anyone knows them, they really could of hurt your daughter.

Just a tip though, once puppy is back on its feet, make sure you take it to puppy play/play with some kind dogs, it will take a lot for her to get over being attacked like that at such a young age

My cocker spaniel was badly attacked, i was in too much shock to deal with it other than screaming at the man to get the dog off. I reported it to Police and dog warden, and vet had details of attack. I didn't get very far with finding out who he was though, as he wasn't from our village but someone told me to use the local FB noticeboard and ask if anyone knew them....I had about 5 replies from others who knew exactly who I meant, and that the dog was supposed to be out muzzled and on a lead....it was neither. I passed all that onto the Police and dog warden, and let them deal with it. May be worth a go and ask people not to publicly post anything, PM you instead.

Sorry I forgot to add what a horrid shock it is, your poor wee pup. It may be worth seeking a behaviouralist for some advice as he's going to be terrified of other dogs for a while. Mine took a good few months to be ok again, and I felt awful that I hadn't protected him. Big hugs for you all xx

What kind of dog was it?

Report
3boys3dogshelp · 30/03/2017 19:11

Oh OP what a horrible thing to happen to you all. I'm pretty sure that, in legal terms, if you dog was on its lead and there's was off lead then your dog is deemed to be in control therefore the attack is undoubtedly their fault. They should be paying all of your vet fees as well as being prosecuted by the police. Hope pup is okay.
