Has anybody used this? Seems amazing but I'm worried about a stranger taking my dog! But would really take the pressure off me. I think otherwise we need a dog walker. Which is ok but expensive and realistically- its still a stranger taking my dog!

I use it but as a walker! We have walked one ladies dog every weekend for about 10 months now and I do another during the week every now and then! Just go for the walkers that have fully registered/paid and been verified! Borrow my doggy has a vet on an 0800 number available 24/7, but if you're worried just meet them a few times first with the dog! Also just be fussy about who you use!

We got loads of offers as I've worked in a kennels before and have a lot of experience with dogs so just keep an eye out for the good ones!

It's a fab idea!

I contacted one lady first, all the others contacted me! I've had to say no to quite a few but am in a smaller area so think there are more dogs than walkers on there!

my daughter does this once a week...she gets to love a dog for the day and the owner gets free loving dog minding. everyone wins!

MrsTrent that's why we did it, my DH and I work full time and we rent so don't want to risk getting a dog in case we needed to move. So this is fab, we take her out both Saturdays and Sundays and it's so nice!

I was half expecting people on here to say i was being irresponsible for doing it!
So glad its a possitive response. Ive messaged a few people but they havent been active in a long time . There are newer ones but they dont have the full account so cant reply to my message.

This sounds great - I work full-time so wouldn't get a dog myself but DD would love one, and it would be good for both of us to get out at the weekend to exercise a dog. I've just signed up with the basic profile so I could see if there were any likely candidates locally and there are!

I was in West London and paid to join as a walker when a dog we had part time for a relative who worked died . But not one person ever followed up on us meeting their dog and it didn't work for us. We hadn't worked in a kennel but had so much to give so I don't think you should judge but meet and then decide.

Having my relatives dog part time was amazing as we were like grandparents in that everything revolved around her so we took her to Richmond park for whole days and had such special times. She used to pull at the lead anywhere near our street and race down to our exact door!

Be very careful. There is no contract in place and borrowmydoggy takes no responsibility for anything that might happen. There's been cases of the walkers keeping the dog.

I'm just resurrecting this thread as I'm interested because my DCs (well, mainly the older one) are absolutely desperate to have a dog but we couldn't commit.

I am worried that I have so little experience (well, none) as a dog owner/walker and that my DCs are too young (5 and 3).

I work 4 days a week and was thinking we could offer to walk a dog on the day I don't work - I have my younger DC all day and pick the older one up from school and if the dog lived close enough we could walk them a couple of times during the day. I thought it might be helpful for an owner that works full time.

I am trying to train the DCs to be well behaved around dogs - they know not to jump on dogs, and that they must ask before stroking, stroke the bits that the individual dog likes, that however much they think the dog will like their lunch they mustn't give it to them etc.

But I have no experience as I say, and of course my DCs are still young and very bouncy themselves, so it may be completely silly to even suggest this!

drspouse, I am sure you could find a dog that suits that! I know that when my is a bit older (10 months now so too bouncy and excitable for small kids) I would love to have someone near who could take him out when we have the occasional long days when not home
