So, I've got a puppy, he's 12 weeks old now I've had him since he was 8 weeks. He just refuses to poo outside! He will wee fine (still does that in the house sometimes) but for a poo which I have been taking him out all the time to try for, always after he's eaten or been asleep he just refuses to go outside I mean I can be out with him for 30 minutes and then he will come inside and do one straight away or if I've just left him out with my other dog for any length of time he will still come inside and do one, sometimes if he's outside and I've left the door open he will purposely come in and do one!! I always ignore anything he does in house and praise outside and sometimes if I catch him doing one in the house I will just silently take him outside but nothing seems to make him associate outside with doing a poo! Any advice please? Will he just grow out of it? I don't remember my other dogs doing this!

When mine was little and he did a poo inside if I saw him in the act I would say no and lift him and run outside with him. Yes that was sometimes messy with him still pooing but he got the message. I also praised him lots when he pooed outside but it sounds like your puppy doesn't even go outside. Mine never really poos straight after a meal, more like 30 mins after so maybe wait 15 mins take him outside and do not move until he has been even if it means staying out for over an hour (try gently rubbing his tummy as this tends to make mine want to poo). Then lots and lots of praise and even a small treat.

During toilet training I wound never let mine outside without me being there because I would not be able to see when he went and thus do the praising. It was bloody freezing and took lots of my time standing about but I think it was worth it in the end. I think you are going to have to wait it out I am afraid until he eventually goes outside with you and then act completely mad and shower him with lots and lots of praise.

I also should have said there is a puppy survival thread on here with lots of people going through toilet training right now so you might want to look at it or join it for help.
