Is he a running breed? My dog has one 'flat' toe from a running injury before he came to me, it's quite common in 'fast' dogs. I've not seen one where the whole foot has gone, but it's possible I guess.

Is it front or rear? Does he have normal reflexes? If you pick up the paw and 'knuckle' it over so that the top of the paw is touching the ground, does he turn it back over again? Straight away?

He's a whippet, thankyou for answering.i can't do what you suggest as the vet has him in a support bandage,we go back to night for a verdict, the vet is saying he may need 2 more operations, one that he is not sure he can do or that will work.

Poor boy, did he hurt himself running and go lame, or did the foot suddenly become flat? This seems very strange indeed.

Hopefully the vet will have some answers for you. There are a number of surgical fixes for ruptured tendons but I'm not sure how they would apply to the whole foot or if they would be applicable to the problem your dog has; with any luck the other vets your own vet is referring to will be able to help.
