Rehoming

I wonder if any of you can help. My friend has a one year old dog that she needs to rehome. She has terminal cancer and is struggling to look after him now she is feeling so poorly. She doesn't want him to go to a rescue center.

Can anyone advise on how to go about this in a way that is sensitive and kind to everyone involved as she is so heartbroken.

Thanks

Where abouts are you located, I know of some rescues who could help but I am up north Smile

Is the dog a specific breed? Lots of breed rescues rehome from home to home so no kennels involved. Breed specific ones tend to be stricter with the criteria for rehoming which can only be a good thing.

The Cinnamon Trust (my link) may well be able to help. They have a network of volunteers who help the elderly and people with terminal illnesses keep their pets for as long as possible.

If rehoming sooner rather than later is the preferred option (and I can entirely understand why it may be) then his breeder should be the first port of call, presuming they're reputable. They should either be able to take him themselves or help find a suitable home.

If that's a no go then small, independent rescues often use a network of fosterers rather than kennels and may also be able help find a new home for the dog whilst he remains with your friend.

Breed club rescues are also a good option if he's a specific breed (they will sometimes take in crosses as well) and there are also many breed and type specific rescues who again rely on fosters rather than putting dogs into kennels.

If you could give a rough location and the breed/type of dog I'm sure posters will be able to recommend specific rescues.

I think the cinnamon trust rehome pets for the elderly or terminally ill. Flowers for your friend.

Thank you so much for this information. She's in the south east. I'm not sure of the breed but will ask her and get back to you.
