Where do you buy your rawhide chews from?
My ddog loves them as a treat but I want to bulk buy if possible

I get them from a local animal feed store - they sell everything in bulk so I get about 100 "medium strips" for £8.

check out the internet for the dangers of feeding rawhide to your dog - nasty things

Get 100 cows ears from zoo plus instead for around £23.

Rawhide is a by product of the leather industry, treated with nasty chemicals to tan the leather, and them more to remove the smell then bleached.

Awful stuff, not fit for canine consumption.

Genuine question - is there any way of knowing if those cow's ears from zooplus etc have been produced using chemicals too? I know that some v nasty chemicals are often used to remove the hair from these products. Wish there was tighter legislation on labelling. Can anyone recommend specific products that are definately 100% natural?

Have you tried antlers, dried salmon skins (huge and £4.99), chew roots or dried meat? Have a look on green and wilds :) It's all natural and my dog loves them. The dried salmon skins are 2 in a pack and 60cm long you just cut them to size (next on my dogs list Smile). Rawhide goes sticky while dogs eat it, I'd hate to see what it does to their insides.

Thanks snip, just had a look at green and wilds website and it looks really interesting. I do give fish skin strips and dried meat as treats, but ddog just wolfs them in seconds, it doesn't seem to provide him with that chew satisfaction IYSWIM. He wont bother with antlers or anything very hard. fussy dog! I might give chew roots a try though Smile.

Bulls horns are very good and keep my terrier entertained for hours on end. And both my Terrier and chihuahua love antlers

I give mine Bulls Pizzels, which are completely natural.

He loves them. Can throughly recommend as long as you can get your head past the fact they're Bulls Willies!

Fish sticks are good, as are beef tendons and pizzles (sometimes sold as bully sticks). If your dogs love rawhide, you can get "beef scalp" which is almost the same thing - air dried so it has none of the nasty chemicals

The place where I get my dog food (millies wolfheart - online) have fish things, like little bricks - these are good for chews, teeth, snacks.

Oh, meant to add. Mine love things like deer horns but you have to observe them eat these for the point where sharp pointy bits become accessible.

Rawhide is so dangerous for your dog.

I changed from rawhide to fish skin bars as well. Usually order from Skippers , their delivery is really good. Fish skin seems to good a good job on keeping their teeth clean.

Bubble2bubble, I didn't know about skippers so just had a look. They have so much variety. Have you ever tried their chews? I'm just wondering if it makes a smelly slobbery mess! They describe them as long lasting so I was wondering if I would find a smelly slobbery mess in my bed!

No mess at all dudsville, just a slight lingering smell of fish in the house....Grin
I get a mixture of fishfingers, throw sticks, mighty bars and the small cubes for training treats. The throw sticks probably keep them going the longest.

Diving in here with another question about chews - which ones do you think are the best value - cheap versus long lasting? Ddog is a very large dog and quite a chewer so things don't last too long.

I give mine Pet Munchies Salmon Skin Chews. They are more expensive than rawhide but much better for them.
