Advice please-dog has eaten smoked salmon

My 2 year old greyhound has just snaffled a bit of smoked salmon (about a 2p piece size) from the worktop-I've googled and now scared myself witless about salmon poisoning/parasites. It was wild Alaskan salmon. Does anyone know vaguely what the chances are of him getting sick from salmon poisoning? I read that symptoms tend to appear after 5-7 days but can take longer so will be keeping a very close eye but any advice/experience would be great. TIA

A 2p size piece? Zero chance

After a quick google it sounds like the odds are incredibly low and if they were infected there are obvious signs of illness.

I'm pretty sure it will be fine. The salmon will have been frozen to kill parasites before it was smoked.

I think it's a non issue I've fed my dog smoked salmon and he's been fine

Do you suffer with anxiety in general? I don't mean that in a snarky way incidentally! Your reaction is so out of proportion to what's happened that that is what I immediately thought

Dog will be fine by the way. Would have been the same if he'd eaten several whole packs I should think

I didn't know it was a thing. Now I'll add it to the list along with chocolate and grapes and raisins and fruit stones and apple cores ...

You should see what our dog snaffles! Honestly, there is nothing to worry about, other than he might develop rather picky tastes Grin

You're worried about the dog eating parasites, but presumably not yourself? Confused

Thank you for the reassurance

The parasites in salmon are only harmful to dogs not humans ageingrunner

Blimey.

I just googled and it seems true.
My boys have eaten their way through a lot of salmon in their time, do I have to eat it all myself now?

i think the dog will be fine....pretty sure that even raw salmon for sushi is safe.

unless of course you smoke your own wild alaskan salmon and might have skimped on the food safety aspect?

I was thinking a whole side of smoked salmon had gone missing, in which case I'd expect a whippy poo selection and or possible vomiting.

And apple cores.....

Bless you, you've had some very harsh responses on here. Flowers for your loss, and your worry is completely understandable. Sorry you've not had more support, hope your dog is OK.

Goodness, something else I've learnt. Ddog gets the right hump if I don't give him a few scraps when I make myself a bagel.

Sorry for the loss of your dog OP.

I was about the get snippy myself. Good thing I googled first. Blush

It just seems so unbelievable, we eat it, so assume it ought to be OK.

Posie thank you for being kind

I can see how my OP might sound a bit paranoid/silly-our first dog died very suddenly so I expect I am reacting disproportionately because of this
