was just cruising through Gumtree for chest of drawers when up came this dog. Poor boy. A year old. I can't bear the fact that he was posing for a photo... his rehoming photo sad . Sadly I can't take him as I already have a big dog, but...

Oh, dear. That didn't go well as far as link is concerned! Perhaps you can't link from Gumtree confused

Isadora2007 Wed 11-Jan-17 09:21:39

Why on earth are they charging so much instead of focussing on a lovingly home that is prepared for him?

RhodaBull Wed 11-Jan-17 09:22:34

Heartbreaking. I've half a mind to go round and kidnap him...

DartmoorDoughnut Wed 11-Jan-17 09:23:12

If he's KC re'd why isn't his breeder taking him back? Probably because the owners haven't informed the breeder as they want to get some money back so it isn't a waste angry fucking selfish cunts

Ta, Dartmoor! My technical skills aren't up to much!

the "ready to leave now" was sad, too.

I hate that people think they can dispose of animals like they are putting a pair of shoes on eBay. Poor, poor dog! sad

TheFlyingFauxPas Wed 11-Jan-17 09:34:08

Me too OP sad He's a stunner and so beautiful in his photos. You'd make it work somehow wouldn't you? Even if hours increased.

Poor lovely boy. We adopted a gorgeous black lab under similar circumstances. A friend of a friend wanted to rehome him when he was 5 as he was too busy with work, they had two young children who were heartbroken but he came to us and we had the best time with him, he loved life and got to swim in the sea everyday. He was such a big dog and our kids adored him and he them. We were heartbroken when he died last year but so glad to have loved him.

Just read the description on the link. The owners sound like absolute shits.

KatherinaMinola Wed 11-Jan-17 09:44:33

What did they think getting a dog was going to be like, FFS?

mollie123 Wed 11-Jan-17 09:49:03

oh dear - I wish I had not looked on pets for sale sad - could not resist looking at 'lurchers and wanted to take all the rough-coated ones - and they were reasonably priced too.
I am aghast at the prices being asked for Bulldogs (bulldogs!) most of them are for sale in £1000s - someone is making money out of the 'must have' breed.

I can't bear the fact that he was posing for a photo... his rehoming photo

They probably didn't tell him it was a rehoming photo, if it helps.

I don't really get the outrage. You don't know what other people's circumstances are; they may well have very legitimate reasons for needing to up their hours.

What would you prefer? For them to just leave it in alone all day because they love it? Or try and find it another home?
There will be lots of people for whom a one year old housetrained dog would be preferable over a puppy.

RhodaBull Wed 11-Jan-17 09:58:31

That's fair enough... but if hell froze over and I had to rehome my dog I wouldn't put him on Gumtree.

YY - what you said

Labs between 1 and 2 years old are the most likely to be sold on because of the adolescent phase and not being a cuddly puppy any more. My sister got a black lab in these circumstances and she was a lovely dog and lived to a good old age. The previous owner had young children and could not cope. I am really tempted to rescue this one!

TrustySnail Wed 11-Jan-17 10:09:11

Oh, that's so sad. I hope he finds a lovely new home.

I agree with WellErrr that it's unfair to judge his owners without knowing their circumstances, but the dog's future would surely be in safer hands if he'd been placed with a rescue or returned to his breeder. The worry is, with a site like Gumtree, he might go to someone who doesn't have a realistic idea of a dog's needs and find himself being rehomed yet again.

redannie118 Wed 11-Jan-17 10:10:17

We got our gorgeous jack Russell on Gumtree for free. Owner was desperate to get rid of him because she said " her hours at work had gone up " poor dog was in a terrible state, he'd clearly been kicked all over ( vet confirmed this, he was just a baby but his teeth on one side were all broken)and had a lot of behaviour issues and was shockingly underweight. Took a lot of love to put him right sad

WellErrr Wed 11-Jan-17 10:22:16

I don't understand why being on Gumtree means he won't get a good home.
Look at the number of people on this thread who've had a dog from gumtree. All good homes I assume?

TrustySnail Wed 11-Jan-17 10:45:30

WellErrr He may get a good home; let's hope he does! It just seems a bit hit and miss compared with breeders/rescues who'll have an established process for vetting potential owners.

LumelaMme Wed 11-Jan-17 10:47:48

I trawl the rescue sites now and again, not actually looking for a dog because we don't need another dog and if we did, we'd probably get a very specific variety of puppy, but I cannot get this dog out of my head:

He just looks totally pathetic and in need of love and a good walk. Completely unsuitable for us for several reasons...

Earlgreywithmilk Wed 11-Jan-17 10:50:46

I rehomed my dog - won't bore u all with the reasons. But all I was bothered about was finding the absolute right home for him to go to - he needed to be in a home without children basically. Any only when I'd met the new people several times and gotten to know them did I agree to him going. We are still in touch and he's very happy.

But I didn't take a penny from them although he was a pedigree (they offered) but I felt to try and re-coup money for him would have been truly disgusting.
