Anybody had a doggy DNA test done
(35 Posts)...... are they worth it?
We have a beautiful pup, but literally not a bloody clue what's in him.
He gets a lot of attention as his colour is quite unusual and everybody asks us what breed he is.
Out of curiosity I would love to get a doggy DNA test done but wondered if they are worth it?
Post a photo here and we'll tell you. Or st least will have fun trying to guess.
My friend did for her dog.
She found out she was a mongrel, basically - not worth it!
Ella that's exactly what my DH said!
Il post pics .....
Wow! Look at the eyes on your dog! Where did you get him from, he's a beauty!
He is gorgeous!!
Part-staffie?
Weimaraner and Labrador with perhaps a touch of staffie. Those paws are definitely Weimaraner I have just been making a fuss of an 18week old pup at the pub. There is allegedly a silver lab, but many think it is a Weimaraner/lab cross their colouring is very similar.
He is bloody gorgeous isn't he!!
He is a rescue, the breeds that were mentioned when we got him were Labrador and collie, although we are his 3rd (and last) home so that may not be true. personally I see a bit of greyhound too, he has longer legs than me
Willdoit - a lady on my street has a weimeraner and he is very similar. Just googled a weimeraner x Lab and he does look like one of those.
Staff has also been mentioned to us before. I think he is a good mix of all sorts!
Agree with Weimaraner, Staff and maybe Lab.
Can't see the Collie in him.
Oh wow he's gorgeous! I was also going to say there's a bit of a staffie look about him and with that colouring I'd say a bit of Weimaraner.
I think great dane with some staffy DP thinks he has a husky's eyes!
How old is he?
We got our rescue staffy cross DNA tested, it was fun and interesting but not sure how accurate it really is!
Great Dane
He is 5 months
I think he looks very much like my lurched and may have eyes like a boarder collie which mine is mixed with lovely dog complete chaos
Lol meant lurcher
I'd have said bull lurcher...staffy cross greyhound or whippet depending on his size.
It's a common cross, fits with the colour and he just looks like one, lol.
Oh wow, how gorgeous!
Would have said a bull lurcher, but those blue eyes!?
I've had two dogs DNA tested and am pretty confident the results were accurate btw
"Would have said a bull lurcher, but those blue eyes!?"
Blue eyes aren't uncommon with a blue coat, it also wouldn't be hugely shocking if a bull lurcher had some collie in there as well, which would might add in higher odds of blue eyes - but blue eyes are possible without it as well.
We have been too afraid to get a DNA test done! We don't want to know how much wolf is in our husky cross
It seems the more breeds there are in a mix the less chance the DNA tests have of being of accurate. DDog2 is a proper mongrel and the results of her test were absolutely ridiculous.
I've also known of people who have had unbelievable results complaining to the company who have retested the same samples and got completely different (more believable) results second time round. Make of that what you will.
I agree he could well be a bull lurcher or bull lurcher cross. Collie x bull x greyhound/whippet lurchers seem to be pretty popular at the moment. All those breeds can come in blue (and staffies these days are predominantly blue) so his colour certainly wouldn't be anomalous at all for such a cross. There's a recessive gene for blue eyes (independent of coat colour) in BCs which could potentially explain the eyes, although random blue eyes do pop up in a number of different breeds.
We have been too afraid to get a DNA test done!
I'm picturing White Fang.
Have you read the book, EagleIsland?
Thanks everyone, I think il save myself the £80 and go with your opinions, which are probably more accurate anyway
