DHound loves carrot - can that do any harm??

He's been getting the odd bit of carrot for some time now whenever I prepare them for dinner, but today he had 2 halves from me, then stole 2 whole carrots from the kitchen worktop ShockGrin

Will I find orange diarrhoea tomorrow morning?

Ummm I know they can have carrot but in what quantities am not sure Grin.

DDog loves carrot.

Mine used to have a whole one, he loved it. Used to keep him busy.

Plus Dr Google says its fine - Carrot aren't just good for the eyes but for general well-being including a strengthened immune system. They'll also help your dog maintain strong and healthy canine teeth. Raw carrots are low in calories and make for a nice treat.

My springers love carrots. They hold them between their front paws and nibble them. Keeps them busy for ages Grin

I know a lot of dogs that love carrot - I think it's OK.

Our dog loves raw red pepper. He wont touch any other colour.

They love carrot, and they are totally harmless. If you want to keep your dog entertained for hours, freeze the carrot first....

Ok, that sounds good, thanks.

I could not find anything to suggest it was bad on a quick Google either.

He only recently stole some cold pizza with may one or at most 2 chillies on it and we had the most spectacular dog diarrhoea to clear up in the morning - I me be slightly over-anxious about this Grin

A friend's lab used to love apple and get that as a treat, but DHound is not interested at all. Weirdo.

No harm will come from eating carrots. You might get some orange-tinged poo, but DDog would have to have a really bad digestive system for them to cause diarrhea...

SpareHound gets through several a day with no ill effect, and most raw feeders will include them in the daily rations (apart from those who get frothy about including any sort of veg)

Our dog loves carrots. I chop one up for her occasionally and use them for treats.

Seems to have no affect on her poo, apart from bits of undigested bits present.

3 carrots in one day should have little effect on your pooch, I reckon.

Ddog also loves carrots - raw but cooked. Fussy so and so.

You're so lucky- greengrocer hound shows zero interest in any veg (sigh)

Loves cheese tho ......

Report
PacificDogwod · 26/11/2016 20:41

Oh, cheese lover here too.
And bread.
And whatever we are having for dinner... Hmm

He is the perfect height to just put his chin on the table top and look at his intended victim with soulful eyes.
He's not all that bothered about dedicated dog treats and will not accept a treat from a stranger. He is as skinny as a rake and not actually all that food driven which my lab owning brother finds just incredible Grin

Our dog is half lab and half staffy. The lab side seems to be dominant with respect to food.

She loves all veg and all fruit. Everything. Chillies, garlic, sweetcorn, broccoli, kale, raw potatoes, strawberries, damsons, you name it.

Her entire life seems to be taken up with planning an assault on the veg garden or compost heap.

The bugger tried and failed to leap over the high gate to the veg garden, breaking the gate in the process. We patched up the gate and watched as she tried to bulldoze her way through it using her body like a battering ram.

That girl has determination.

Carrots are absolutely fine to give your dog. Mine also love broccoli and cauliflower. A good thing to use as treats if your dog is overweight too.

My dog used to love carrot but seems to have lost interest now, which is a shame. Loves all kinds of melon, and apple, won't eat any green vegetables though. I think all animals love cheese, my cats used to go mad for a bit of cheddar.

Kidnaped Please don't let your dog eat garlic or raw potatoes, they're both really bad for dogs.

We have two labs who have a carrot each every evening. They love them. Great for their teeth.

Our black lab loves pears too. We have a pear tree in the garden and she takes the ones off the lower branches - climbs up in the compost bins beside the tree. DH spotted her hanging from the tree by her teeth one day and looking very proud of herself when she managed to get half a branch with her pear!

My three hang around on a sunday morning till they get their carrot.

Ours hoovers up everything except banana, which he's not keen on. Sweetcorn (which is not well processed by his innards), cabbage, carrot, peas. He picks blackberries very delicately, leaving the unripe ones behind.

Oh, yes, sweet corn - just like with v young, recently weaned babies: come out unaltered Grin

So today, DHound had half an apple - peeled, natch! Hmm

When dh was a lad, if they walked their labrador past the greengrocer's shop, she used to swipe a sprout or two, on the fly.

We now have a labrador and a lab-pointer cross who both love veg. They get the ends off the carrots, bits of cucumber, the stringy outer sticks of celery, pear or apple cores - all sorts. They like sprouts and cabbage - they look so funny with a whole cabbage leaf in their mouths, stalk end in, so they have a green frill of cabbage round their muzzles.

I do try to limit their intake of things like cabbage and sprouts - they both have bad enough flatulence without adding cabbage farts to the problem!

The hound loves carrots, one of his favourite snacks. He's a terrible food thief and counter surfed a whole bag of carrots once. The next day it was clear that they are ok in small doses, but a whole bag was too much for his tummy!

Ours loves carrots and most fruit or veg but his particular favourite is cauliflower. You can always tell when he thinks something is particularly special because he removes it from his bowl and takes it into the dining room to eat it in peace.

He's also been enjoying satsuma and pomegranates this week.

Dog stripped our apple tree this year. It had 12 apples on it and he had every one. I'm building a fence I tell ya!

That's a great photo!

I just missed getting one of mine with a big long carrot (he had swiped!) between his paws - this is just after.

I read the thread title as DHusband loves carrot- can it do any harm.

I thought what a daft question as my husband was eating one of the four raw carrots he has every day. Then I realised everyone was saying about their hounds ! I cannot comment about hounds as I don't have one !
