indestructable toys

Our Labrador manages to chew through anything! We have bought so many 'indestructible' toys that just don't cut the mustard!
His nickname is destructo dog!

Gave up on rope toys ages ago as they are instantly shredded. Our longest last toy has been a small rubber tyre but now he has managed to take a chunk from it its become a mission to completely destroy it.

Anyone recommend any truly ' indestructible' toys?

Our 20 month rott is a nightmare, don't know about indestructible but funnily enough the rope toys from Poundland have lasted longer than anything else.

My Labrador is the same. His favourite indestructible toy now is a buffalo horn. £4. Lasts for ever. Though now the bugger keeps digging holes in my garden to bury the ruddy thing

Marking place for some ideas too as our 9month has stopped nipping and mouthing us and is taking it out on the toys instead!

Oh the burying! I have soo many holes in my flower beds I have given up! Between a cairn thing and the Rottie they have either dug up and eaten or buried everything I own!!!!

Same here. Destructive jack Russell's tear through everything. Nylon bones from wilkos have lasted (but not great for teeth) and the Kong toys - get a larger size and the black ones are designed for tough chewers. One lasted a whole year!

We've done six dog beds, four dining room chairs all the legs are buggered. Sam actually ate a leather armchair. Skirting boards. Socks, a debit card. A whole rolled pork shoulder. Entire blocks of butter. A fence.

I can't give my labrador anything made from horn/real bone as she will bury it and dig it up in a never ending cycle of crying and digging. The only thing that she likes and lasts are nylabones.

Watching this with interest. My Lab has only been defeated by a cheap fabric "rolled up" newspaper from Asda. Other than that, he seems unable to destroy a piece of hard plastic pipe, but is continually trying!

The dog trainer gave him a Nylabone. Said nothing would happen to said Nylabone. Two minutes later, it was wrecked and my dog's gums were bleeding !

Antlers and buffalo horn. They are the only things that withstand my lab. A good chunk of antler tends to last a few weeks and a buffalo horn a good few months.

The buffalo horn sounds worth a try.

Tried Kongs. He has a couple used for putting food inside. The have faired well but he only has them for food so doesnt have the opportunity to destroy them too much. Tried a black Kong bone toy with high hope but that didn't last too long either.

He's now 16 mths and thankfully stopped chewing items/furniture/ skirting boards/ shoes thankfully! I'd much rather he destroys toys than the house!

I have a strong breed and the only thing that I have found that lasts is Nylabones. I'm a bit afraid to try the antlers as, though they sound ideal, I have heard that strong chewers can break their teeth on them - anyone know whether this is a valid concern or not??

Mine is a shredder too, I just accept it now and give him knotted up old socks, t shirts etc, I got fed up of buying rope toys that were shredded in minutes!

Ceres - what a fabulous idea! 9 month old lab loves soft toys, especially stuffed ones. They last about 10 minutes! But love the idea of tied up sox and t shirts. I might try stuffing some sox with bits of rag and tying up the end.

We use hard plastic toys for our JRT. To give some perspective, a tennis ball is shredded in about 5 minutes with him. Bought a cheap hard plastic bone from The Range and it's lasted ages, however I think the reason it's lasted so long is because he is less interested in it because he can't shred it! I've sort of given up trying, I just buy him a toy once a week and accept that it'll be gone by the end of the day. I'm just grateful that he doesn't chew anything important. He loves it though... He also has brilliant teeth for his age (confirmed by vet).

The Kong for strong chewers lasted 5 minutes with our scottie. £2 a minute by my estimation. I took it back for a refund.

Best thing I've found for him is actually kids toys from the charity shop. Things like mother care first bears etc
His favourite is a boots crocodile with crinkles and rattles etc. It cost me £1. It's been shaken, tugged, thrown and generally ragged and is still in one piece.

One of mine did it Not even the strongest chewer, I think he was just really, really unlucky. He sheared off one of his biggest molars, the remnants of which then needed extracting.

That was after years of using then for five dogs without the slightest issue. Like I said, I think it was more horribly bad luck than anything else as two of the others (both bigger and stronger chewers) would chomp away on them like nobody's business and neither ever suffered so much as a tiny chip.

I decided to bin the antlers just in case and now use Anco Roots/Chew Roots which are apparently very satisfying to chew but are softer so less risk to teeth.

I've had reasonable luck with tuffy brand toys, a random cheap nylon type frisbee, a benebone, a cheap smooth,rubber/plastic squeaky toy and a couple of kongs for food. Mostly I assume if it's for the dog it's going to be destroyed eventually so I buy tough or buy cheap.

Have you tried these www.dfordog.co.uk/chuckit-ultra-dog-ball.html Don't look at it and think it is just another dog ball. When I got my first of these (over 6 years ago now) I bought loads. I was used to buying toys in bulk, lol. But I still have every single one of them apart from one of the small ones that Berkeley dropped down the drain. He cold rip any toy to shreds in seconds but never made so much as a dent in one of these. Ask anyone who has tried one. They are all converted - me included.

Oh and my new terrier Spadge is rather keen on his Squirrel Dude by Busy Buddy. It's not actually his. Again, I have had them for years and it used to be Berkeley's. They just seem to endure. It's a treat toy, so really should be busted by now but it isn't. I much prefer them to stoopid Kongs. Seem to be more fun and last longer.

And I agree with a post above re Tuffy toys. They last amazingly well. Go for a simple shape. The less bits that can (and will) be pulled off, the better. Spadge has the Tuffy ring.
