The day I've been dreading is almost here, my miniature schnauzer isn't going to get better. He's sleeping so much now and not eating much at all. Even his favourites won't tempt him. We've decided to take him to the vet tomorrow to get him put to sleep.
As I'm typing this he's lying beside me waiting for me to continue ticking him. He would usually get annoyed when I stopped and hit me with his paw to continue but now he hasn't got the energy.
Just feeling so heartbroken and absolutely dreading it but I know it's the right thing to do for him.
This really is the worst part of having a dog.
Not sure why I'm posting this, non of my friends are big dog lovers so don't really get it, they're sympathetic but I can't really speak to them about it.
My dh and dc's are all trying to keep it together as we don't want him to see us upset.
It's just so hardSad

I'm so sorry. It's horrible having to say goodbye to a member of the family. I'm sending big hugs your way xxx

I'm so very sorry. I've had a massive roller coaster with mine. She is ok at the moment but that could change any time. What does your vet say? Strength to you and your lovely one.

I'm really sorry it must be horrible to have say goodbye, he's part of your family. I have a 4 month old miniature schnauzer puppy, how old is your boy? I hope you have had many happy years with him.

Thanks everyone for your kind replies.
He's 13, been not right for the last year or so, could tell something wasn't right but nothing ever showed up at the vets. He had a funny turn two weeks ago, vet did a scan and he's got a mass on his spleen.
We all agreed not to put him through the trauma of surgery.
The vet estimated approx 6 weeks but it's come sooner than that.
My poor boy, the weight has just dropped off him. He still gives me such a lovely greeting when he sees me but he must feel terrible.
Taking him to the vet in the morning, I'm so very sad.
