Hot spot??

My dog's been scratching a bit under his chin (where his ruff is very thick) but it didn't seem to be that bad. However I realised when I was putting his collar back on last night that there's an area about the size of my palm which is covered with little raised bumps, some of which are scabbed where he's been scratching. The fur's so thick I can't see clearly what it is but it's obviously bothering him.

His flea and tick treatment is up to date, he does have an allergy to nettles but they usually only bother him when the plants are very young and potent in the spring. We've recently been on holiday so he was on the beach all the time getting covered in sand and seawater and he swims at every possible opportunity- he's a Toller

Any idea what it might be?

Ours has the same problem. We took him to the Vets and she said it is possibly some allergy to grass and put him on some antibiotics. The spots were scratched badly and looked very angry and she recommended a steroid cream to stop the itch. We said no and use coconut oil to control the itch and dryness and he takes antibiotics as well.

Thanks - he's going to the vet today as overnight he scratched it so much he's taken the fur off and it all looks very sore . An allergy to something sounds the most likely culprit..,

I think there's something in the air as ddog is scratching and nipping at herself and I keep finding clumps of hair all over the place. I've bathed her, given her a flea treatment etc but it doesn't seem to have made a difference.

It's a skin infection (unknown cause) - he's got antibiotics and a topical lotion for five days and no swimming until it's healed over

The vet said he wouldn't go down the route of allergy testing unless it kept on happening so here's hoping it's just a one-off

Hoping that the topical lotion is not a steroid. I was given the same advice and my dog won't stay away from the lake. :(
