Hi, hope someone can help.

Went to view puppies yesterday and we put a deposit down on a gorgeous mini schnauzer. This morning DH woke up with a horrible rash all over his face, neck, back and chest. He has never owned a dog before but been around dogs and never had a hint of a reaction.

Can you be allergic to a single breed or dog? What can we do to see if it was the dog or maybe something he ate?

Generally people are allergic to dog fur/dander and not a specific breed. A dog is a dog. If he has been around dogs in the past and had no reaction then hopefully it is not a dog allergy but only trying again will answer that. It could equally be something in the environment of the home you visited.

BTW, hopefully you know about buying pups, yes? Make sure you see mum etc...

I guess it depends on the person.

My dh is allergic to labs and staffs and other dogs with quite a coarse coat but other fluffier dogs like chihuahuas he has no reaction.

He also has a terrible allergy to cats. It gets that bad it can trigger his asthma but long coated cats don't do it which is why we have the cat that we have
