What to put on tag?

I'm getting new tags for my dogs.
I'm thinking of just entering my mobile number and have " I am chipped" on the other side.

Was advised not to put the dogs' names or my address in case the info is used to steal them.

Just wondering what's on your dogs tags.

Legally you must have your surname and address on the tag.

Yup, ours has our surname and address. Not the dog's name.

Law states that you need your name and address on the tag - usually just your house number/name and the postcode. Agree the dogs name shouldn't be on there.

As Sonic says - name and address of owner are legally required.

Mine each have two tags. The first has our house number and street, postcode, my mobile number, DH's mobile number and our home number. The second has the name of the vet practice we use, their postcode and their phone number plus "I've been chipped" on the other side.

I like to make sure we've got all possible bases covered!!

I don't think it makes much of a difference whether you put the dog's name on it or not. In order to read the tag anyone trying to entice your dog away would pretty much have to have hold of them already in order to read it. Plus, unless you never use your dog's name when you're out and about a potential thief is more likely to get it just by hearing you say it.

Mine don't have their names on because a) it wouldn't fit, b) they each have so many nicknames that I'm sure they'd respond well to anything said in a kindly tone in the event of them being taken in by a stranger, and c) I'm tight and re-use tags on multiple dogs Grin

Our surname, house number, postcode, my mobile number and 'I am chipped'

I have three phone numbers - mobile, landline and work number, and 'microchipped, neutered' ( this is supposed to discourage dog theft)
Legally you should have your name but with limited space I would rather make sure someone could contact me.

Oh, the first tag also has our surname on as well.

I use these tags. You can fit loads on them (particularly the bone shaped one) and they last brilliantly.

Trionic maybe its just my dog but those tags fell off. Noticed the tag was missing one day. I tried another one as thought it might not have been on properly and after 6 months or so it happened again. Dog does a lot of running through the woods so perhaps tag got caught on something, still hard to see how it could come off though.
So now use the Indigo tags which are flat on the collar and can't get caught on anything.

Likewise Alco - the woods must be full of my dogs old tags as we lost about one a week before we discovered Indigo Tags!

DDog2 actually managed to lose an Indigo Tag Hmm It was one of the open ended ones and I've no idea how she did it as it was a bugger to get the damn thing on her collar! I'd give the closed end ones a go but none of mine wear collars anymore and I wouldn't be able to get a closed end one onto their harnesses.

None of mine have ever yet lost their normal tags though and I've had some of them over four years now.
