And I mean temporary. He is NOT staying I mean it

My MIL has been told by the council she has to rehome two of her dogs. She has 4 but the council policy is two dogs and three cats.

When she moved into the property with one dog and then got three more we did warn her but was fobbed off. Any ways it's come down to it now and after a big decision she's decided to rehome the two Yorkshire terriers
(She has one GSD, one Lab and two yorkies)

One of the yorkies is not getting on so well with the GSD so she has asked if we will take him until she can find a new home.

Dh was desperate to say yes so I've reluctantly agreed. I don't like Yorkshire terriers. It's silly I know but I just see no appeal in that breed.

He will be here later and I know he will be good with my children because my MIL has my kids occasionally. In fact Dylan (the dog) is my dd(3) best friend.

I will show you some pictures later when he comes. I just hope my cat doesn't go too nuts. Or that Dd becomes so attached that she won't want him to go

You KNOW that dog's staying, right? Grin

My friend used to be a foster carer for a dog charity. She adopted 3 dogs in a row (and palmed 2 more off on close relatives. They won't give her any more!

No, no he is not!

I am determined to be firm on this! No picture yet as MIL wants to bring him tomorrow morning now instead

No way should you have the YT's, horrid little dogs. Top of my list of disliked breeds, second on list Westies.

You do know they will be with you forever especially as your children love them.

Give him a chance for Petes sakes!!!! You might love him, you might not but I think you're being pretty hard towards a little dog who sounds quite unhappy and distressed.

We have a Yorkie and a jack Russell. The Yorkie is the funniest and sweetest dog ever! I never like the breed much but they really grow on you! They have a heart of gold and really are just like part of the family!

Take the shepherd instead Wink

Congrats on your new dog though Grin

We can't have the GSD as mil wants to keep that one!

And no chance are we having both!

He isn't distressed. Just not getting along with the GSD. I will treat him fine. I won't be horrible to him but it is supposed to be a foster situation. Though knowing my dh I can't see him going tbh though he swears he won't crack

I think we need to see pictures of all four dogs so we can decide which one(s) you should adopt.

Sad no chance

Mil is adamant she is keeping the GSD and the lab

She suggested we take Dylan cos he gets on so well with Dd

So we have got him.....and he seems to have attached himself to me...

I haven't spent much time with him today as I've had to head over to the hospital but dh said he has been a diamond with my ds. Mainly keeping out of the way but if faced with him he just stands there and stays calm which is fab.

The cat however..........well she's sulking somewhere

He's attached himself to you because he knows you're the one he needs to convince.

The cat will get over it.

Congratulations OP, and welcome home Dylan!

Pfffft he isn't staying!! I've lost really haven't i?

I just hope the cat comes round. She's only 12 weeks so young enough to adapt and Dylan is used to cats so I hope they will eventually sort it out between themselves. The upstairs is going to be dog free for a safe space for the cat and go from there

12 weeks is fine for a cat to get used to a dog. At least Dylan isn't a bouncy puppy.
