My dog has spent the last 1/2 hour or more constantly licking her lips and/or the carpet. She is getting increasingly frantic. It's as if she has got something stuck on her tongue although as far as I can see her tongue looks ok. Should I be worried and is there anything I can do to help her?

Have you had a check that theres not a splinter or piece of food or insect sting or whatever?

If there isn't then maybe give her an ice cube or a lump of frozen peas (the ones in the bag that you dig out of the bottom of the freezer and think we never eat peas, why are these here, you know the type) that she can lick and push around?

Is she drooling and swallowing a lot?

I'm sure I read somewhere that frantic licking, drooling and swallowing could be signs of bloat.

Mines does that if shes going to be sick, I sometimes give her a treat to either help down or up what's stuck

I'd go to the vet

Of course after a long drink she has now stopped and seems back to her usual self. Typical! Just like when you call the doctor about your child and rush down to the surgery only for them to be as right as rain once you get there! She was not drooling or swallowing excessively but I will keep an eye out for this. I like the idea of an ice cube to suck if she starts again. It's nearly time for her tea so I will see if that goes down (and stays down!)

Thanks all.
