What Should I Expect From 11 Week Puppy

We are getting an Italian greyhound puppy on Saturday. I am a total dog virgin. What should I expect and what are the essentials to get? So far I've bought a collar and lead!

Oh, how exciting! Iggies are so cute Grin

Have you bought a sighthound collar? They need wider collars than normal due to their slender necks. Meggie Moo makes the best ones around, and will size to a suitable one for your pup. I like martingale collars as they won't slip over the dogs head.

You'll need a bed as well - the Milgi one lets you just fold a single duvet to go inside which makes keeping them clean easy.
Bowls, food, poo bags, Simple Solution pet accident spray, big roll of kitchen roll, the Perfect Recall book, gundog whistles for recall, and you should be good to go.
When the weather gets cooler, you'll need dog coats for them as well

They are adorable. My friend has one. They like beds that they can burrow in - Charley Chau make one. Hounds love to burrow. My dachshund - of a diff breed but part of the hound family - likes to put his snout in my arm pit.

They are quite whiny I gather - I got my dachshund the same time as she got her puppy and she had loads of sleepless nights as hers cried in the night a lot.

As with any puppy, expect early morning toilet trips, frequent toilet trips and puddles. It does get better though. Mine dachsie is nowhere near toilet trained - he'll go but if he had his way, he'd be going inside - but it's so much easier than it was.

Good luck.

CMOT I love those collars. I'm also sniffing a bit at Meggie Moo's story.

What food should I get? I'm guessing the breeder will give me all that info. Yes I did buy one of those collars, they look great. I feel like such a novice to all this.

Yes, the breeder will give you some food to get started, then you can decide what you move to after the puppy stage. Contact them and ask so you can order some in.

You'll need some chewy toys so you can do a swift substitution for things the puppy shouldn't have in their mouth.
