Our beloved border collie is poorly. Usually full of life, the most sparkly eyes (one blue, one brown as merle in her) but late last week noticed a yellow in them. Took her to vets and took bloods and not joy so scanned her. Enlarged liver but could not get full picture so options were to open her up to see if blockage or refer to specialist Could not have her opened up so took to specialist centre this morning. Explained would do scans, bloods, biopsy etc phoned this afternoon to say gallbladder so enlarged on scan that did not even insert needle to take biopsy as could cause it to rupture. Thankfully no tumours but very very poorly and had put on a drip as dehydrated and keeping in as need to monitor and wait for results as no blockage but liver and gall bladder so inflamed doesn't bear thinking about.
Just went into bag to get charger and collar is in there and burst into tears. Son who is autistic is beside himself. Thankfully right decision to not operate. But everyone phone goes I just panic. Just want her back healthy.

Thank you for all your kind wishes. Update is on medication to reduce swelling of the liver and gall bladder as problem with bile duct. Don't know whether the swelling is due to bile duct not functioning correctly so not getting rid of stuff or due to obstruction in it. Been allowed to bring her home due to family circumstance's but with a long list of what to look out for and numbers to ring and will not hesitate in taking her back if any deterioration. If medication works and swelling reduces then yes! If not then operate on Friday as medication will have reduced swelling by then.

Also told in no uncertain terms if hadn't done what we had chosen to go to specialist place and investigate further of had gone down the open up route late last week then no dog sat at sons feet now.

No worse which is positive. Watching her like a hawk. Taken medication OK and still early days. Son is so happy home and he is watching like a hawk and it's better she is here. The yellowness in her eyes is not as noticeable or it could just be me but improvement there. Staying positive as a day of little improvements is huge in my eyes as her deterioration was rapid.

Update. Went to vets with her yesterday and due to medication working will not have to operate yeah!!!!!!!!! The vet explained how poorly she was. Basically when we took her first some level in her bloods and liver sample was 150!!!! And is high at 20! Other things as well on scan. So priority was keeping her in which they had to and reducing that level which overnight went from 150 to 80. Medication would have assisted but they think what ever blockage in her liver / gall bladder area had naturally but pushed down by the sheer pressure in there. Took bloods etc again when I took her and is now down to 40 and were able to scan her and they were able to get such good images that nothing in the ducts or tubes etc is blocking so now it's a couple of weeks of medication to assist nature in the process by turning the jelly like fluid into a more watery fluid to ease to around all that area. Have to take her for weekly bloods to check the levels are continually on the decline and still watch her for any changes. So so happy. To watch my son asleep soundly with his arm around her last night and her snoring made me and my husband both have tears of joy and the bill we have now to pay, well worth every penny and fingers crossed the insurance might cover some of it. If not husband will be up for sale to the highest bidder on ebay.
