Lepo2 or lepto 4

Hi

Any vets about? We have a 9 week old pup who was given general vaccination and lepto 2 at 8 weeks. I have just been to our vet and they only administer lepto 4 so gave us the choice of going back to the original vet and getting lepto 2 at 10 weeks, meaning she could go out at 11 weeks.
Or starting again with lepto 4, which would mean 1st jag at 10weeks and not out until 14 weeks.
But having had a bit of a Google I was wondering if we went to our local vet at 10 weeks and had the second general vaccination against parvovirus, distemper etc and the 1st lepto 4. Would she then be "covered" against parvo etc and basic strains of lepto, so able to go out at 11 weeks. Then get the second "top up" of lepto 4 hopefully giving her immunity against more strains of lepto.
Obviously I want her to be safe as possible but also able to get out and socialise as soon as possible. We live in a high dog area, with dogs from all over the place being walked.
Also years ago my vet said we could take our un vaccinated pup to the beach to run around on the wet sand when the tide was out as it was "clean" has that been disproved? Or could that be an option while we are waiting for the vaccinations to "kick in"

Exact same situation here. 9 weeks, had an L2 jab first. Our vet is doing the L4 jab this week and then we have to go back in another 4 weeks for another jab - the other 2L bits that he'll only have had one lot of. Apparently this is ok cos the first and second jabs are the same brand, just one is l2 and one l4.

The advice from the company that makes L4 is that they can go out a week after the second DHP just not in areas with high rate concentration for example canal side etc.
We use L4 in our practice and our schedule is
8 weeks DHPL4 out carried in arms seeing the world
10 weeks DHP
11 weeks our in low risk rat areas on the ground
12 weeks L4
13 weeks out everywhere.

Without wishing to sound alarmist, there seem to be some fairly serious concerns around the safety of the Lepto 4 vaccination. As with all things vaccination, it's for people to make up their own minds, but worth some research.

There are risks with all vaccination it is that the lepto 4 ones have a lot of publicity at the moment. No greater than any other vaccine just these don't hit the headlines as much.

Thanks Lonecat. Had a good chat with a vet nurse today, we are next to the sea with no standing fresh water. My main concern is dog-to-dog transition as we live in an area of high concentration. We are going to go with arms until 11 weeks.
With respect Whitney I don't consider a link to a Facebook group as "doing my research".

I wasn't in any way intending that you would accept the group as research, the two things weren't linked, but apologies - I can see that it sounded that way.

No issues, I realise vaccs a contentious subject and the vet's word is usually accepted.

Lonecat is right that Lepto 4 very topical at the moment, due to its relatively recent adoption. However, there do seem to be a worrying amount of reactions for a vacc that covers an additional two varieties of Lepto that are - I believe? - not found in the UK so far, and only offers c.5-7 months coverage anyway.

However, I am absolutely not a sheep who believes Facebook drama, so please don't take as such - am very open to education from any angle. I have to say though, that I would be avoiding vets using Lepto 4 if I had a puppy to vaccinate at the moment. Luckily, I don't, and I can see how things play out.

I work in a vets and we've been using the Lepto 4 vaccine for just over a year and haven't had a single dog react to it so I think it's pretty safe

That would be impossible for you know as the lepto vaccine gives puppies serious organ failure mainly kidney/liver so if a puppy has been brought in with symptoms a vet would just put it down to kidney failure, two of my puppies died from the awful vaccine, I myself took my two dead puppies to the royal vetinary college at south mimms, for an autopsy it cost me £1200 and proved my suspicions LEPTO 2 had killed my pups, as is it killing thousands every year it is dangerous and cause nasty suffering for the animal DPV VACCINE is the much safer option FACT, 3 specialist vets in my area will not use this vaccine as they work on good morals not making money out of unsafe, untested, pointless vaccines.

My breeder of DDog2 warned against the 4 - said avoid at all costs - after first hand experience of some side effects.

I'm not one to be cautious usually but I'd go back to the original vet.

Hi there, I am so sorry to hear that 2 of your puppies passed away from the vaccines....
You mentioned that 3 specialist vets do not use lepto vaccines, could you let me know which ones they are please, I'm in Herts and very keen to find a good vet for my pup, thank you 🙏
