He is 5.5 and over his entire life of grooming him and sharing a sofa with him i have never ever found any black hairs. He is a really light golden. Almost white. These are two single black hairs about 10 inches away from each other. At first i though they were cat hairs caught in his fur but no, they are attached to his skin. Is this like the dog equivalent of going grey? Confused

Nope, probably just a throwback to the mix of breeds used to create the Golden Retriever. They have black Flat Coats in their ancestry somewhere.

My black Lab has the odd white hair which is a throwback from when the breed standard had white stars on their chests and white tips of their tails.

Mine has two "rogue" black hairs too! I saw that this was a no-no for top breeding (who cares!) but I guess breeders could just pluck them out.

Perhaps our grs are related, RudeElf!

He's been cheating on you. Have you confronted him? Maybe check his phone messages first.

I wouldn't normally suggest this, but have you checked his phone?

Has he been humping the neighbour's boarder collie?

My dog would never cheat... (At least not since his bits & pieces were chopped off...)

I very occasionally find super-long hairs on me - arm hairs that have just grown and grown (longest prob 6 inches). What am I descended from??

I've noticed black hairs on my GR too. He's nearly 11 so did wonder if it's a sort of reverse greying Wink.

Logfire a yeti? I get the same on my left eyebrow, 2 that are really long & an almost translucent white which makes them pretty much invisible until they reach a certain length.

Loving these responses! Grin he definitely never cheated on me. He has eyes only for me!

My yellow lab had a few black hairs and my black lab has some yellow ones! I think it's just throwback genes.

As a very pale-skinned, straight-haired person I actually have a few rogue Afro-type hairs that I find and pluck out sometimes. I like to think that somewhere down the line I have an exotic heritage.
