Struggling to find our next pooch...

So we lost our Springer to a liver tumour in November, and then were lucky enough to foster a gorgeous Weimaraner (via this forum) for a month. Since then I've been in 2 minds about whether I want to commit to 12 more years of picking up poo and endless walks in the rain... and having to dash back home all the time to ensure the dog is never left for more than 3-4 hours.

BUT I've decided life without a dog is SO boring! I'm walking around the house with no one following me, and with no one to talk to. This can't go on!!!

The trouble now is that we can't agree on a breed. I love Weimaraners and GSPs (as does DD), both DSs love Collies, DH has vetoed Weimaraners and GSPs (too clingy) and Collies (apparently they should only be herding sheep not family pets). So we've decided look for a rescue cross breed but as soon as a good one comes available they go... it's proving a nightmare!

If any of you are aware of any dogs that need rehoming and might meet our brief (will consider almost any breed really....), please let me know. Ideally something medium sized that will come out running with me ... and short haired for choice. Must like travelling in a car and would prefer house trained.

What about a Staffordshire Bull Terrier? Lovely dogs depsite their reputation due to the press, medium size, short coated, great with kids, super social and literally thousands in rescue needing homes.

Thanks... not overly keen on Staffies. We know they make great pets, but they're not for me/us.

My DD and I were looking at Dogs Trust yesterday actually, and found a lovely dog in the Kenilworth branch that seems right up our street but DH said no.... Grrrrr. I really love this little fellow....www.dogstrust.org.uk/rehoming/dogs/dog/filters/ken~~~~~n~/1143853/angus

It seems that there are always a few hoops to jump through with Dogs Trust - we'd be expected to make multiple visits etc - not ideal as we live in SW London. Our last dog came from Battersea and we are registered with them, so if a dog met our brief there, we wouldn't have to jump through all the DogsTrust hoops. But as you're probably aware, most Battersea dogs are Staffies....

We all agreed on 5 month old dog just like Angus that was recently brought over by a rescue charity from Spain (see image). Annoyingly we got pipped at the post for him.... my daughter was distraught!!!

Awwww he is gorgeous!! That is sometimes the only thing with charities, the amount of hoops to jump through, though I suppose they need to, make sure everyone is genuine...

I have one from Heathlands and one from Many Tears (who is a collie and has made a wonderful family dog, MT have quite a few 'failed' collies on their books although our Moll is the pup of a failed dog and not a 'failure' herself).

Our Heathlands boy is a spaniel of some description and is an absolute diamond of a dog.

How about Maddie? She'd love to go running with you (I run with my lurchers and they adore it).
Or Roobydoo is a bit younger.
EGLR have all their dogs in foster, so know them well and don't have restrictions on rehoming to people with children as long as it works for the dog

Fingers crossed we have found our next little canine companion thanks to Suz1rr's recommendation. We filled in the registration form for him, have spoken to someone from the charity and are now waiting to hear back from the fosterer who ultimately makes the decision about his next home.

My daughter is sitting by the phone waiting to hear!!

PS The M-I-L popped in for a quick cuppa this afternoon and gave her seal of approval to the puppy. She's not always easy to please so that's a big bonus!

We were home checked last night (and passed!) and were hoping to pick him up today but it wasn't convenient for the fosterer - and she can't make tomorrow either, and we can't do Friday..Sigh... so we won't be collecting him until Saturday. My DD is distraught as she goes back to boarding school on Sunday!

Now we're struggling to think of a name for him! A is for Alfie, Archie, Angus, B is for etc......

I was the same when I lost my dog last year. Never again turned into a frantic search about five weeks later. I tried the dogs trust looking to rescue but anything I ever enquired about always seemed to have specific needs(someone with history of the breed etc etc) I ended up buying from a broader. Not something that sat very well with me but the having another part was the best decision I've made in ages. The one you chose looks a bundle of fun. Hope it all works out.
