Stupid firework went off and spooked him when he was off lead in the park and he bolted onto normally quite road where a car hit him.

Been to Vet who said no internal injuries or broken bones but he is very bruised. Had had pain killers and anti-inflammatorys. We are supposed to monitor him at home (less stressful for him) he is whining his head off and won't settle. It's heartbreaking!

Me and DH are both really shaken up Sad

Oh no. So sorry. Fireworks? Why?

I know right! I thought fireworks were banned other than NYE and bonfire night (and that's bad enough!) Sad

How scary. Hope he's ok. Perhaps an email to your local paper with a strong word about fireworks? There's a lot of support to getting them banned except on certain dates. Couldn't agree more.

My friends dog is in bits at the moment, due to the November and NYE extended fireworks. Your poor dog Flowers

Strangely my dog couldn't give a shit about fireworks

Poor thing is a rescue and is quite nervous to begin with. He was trying to run home I think (unfortunately home is across a road) poor boy is really traumatised. Luckily fingers crossed no long term damage. He is following us around and whining his head off. A good soothing stroke calms him down.

We have signed a Petition about fireworks. I recon anything which makes a loud bang should be banned full stop from private use. If you want to see fireworks there are no shortage of public displays.

Fountain type fireworks which are quieter should only be allowed.

If he continues to whine, I'd call the out of hours vet in case he needs stronger pain relief or should be rechecked.

oh you poor thing :( I hope he settles soon. I think the vet must be pretty confident to have sent him home. Hopefully he will be better in the morning x

Called the vet, she said it's probably just anxiety. We can give him more pain killers at 1am

Your poor dog. My dog recovered and is her normal annoying self now. Grin

Did they give him anything for the anxiety?
I think you'll be sleeping in the dog bed with him tonight..

how distressing for you all ... so very very glad your precious ddog is still with us this night.

I think i would be tempted to ply (very slowly and gently) with appropriate treats to distract and pamper and make me feel better

I hope ddog manages to have a reasonable night (and you too!).

Flowers Brew Cake to keep you going x i think it would also be a case for sedation so ddog could sleep the worst of the internal bruising off. Despite no internal injuries, internal bruising is very painful too and if he's following you around thats gonna hurt.

He is dosing and the whining is easing off. The pain killers must be working. He managed to eat some food. Hopefully he will be able to sleep it off in the next few days.

I am feeling less anxious that there is something seriously wrong now he is behaving more normally (he even limped to the fridge when he heard it open - normally he would run in excitement) he got a little bit of scotch egg as he made the effort to walk to the fridge bless him.

He slept ok, the whining has stopped thankfully and he seems to be on the mend. He ate his breakfast fine.

We took him out to pee and he definitely didn't want to leave the house but we coaxed him out and he was normally sniffing etc so I think there is no permanent damage. Such a relief!

good to hear encouraging comments, heading in the right direction and so good that he's interested in food despite the pain very good sign Grin

i was just thinking it must be burns night or something.

these fireworks are causing such distress! If it puts any at such risk i would recommend some conditioning to ensure their lives are not in danger as a result of stupid fireworks.
