Hello, hoping someone has some suggestions. I have googled this seems to be one of a few things but few suggestions to stop or help this.

For the last two nights ( this has happened one before a few months ago) my dog ( lhasa apso) has been frantically licking the floor, she then frantically licks her paw and pulls the hair out and eats it. This is with a strange double throat cough where she seems to be trying to vomit. She appears quite distressed throughout this. Last night she did this all night and at one point i had to pull out the hair from her mouth/throat since she was very agitated and seemed to be choking. She vomited a few times as well. Been to the vet again she is not sure. First she thought this was anxiety and separation issues, but i was not sure since she never normally does this and i been with her all this week. ( last time was about 6 months ago and lots of tests, xrays and nothing found). Last time she was given some tablet for acid i think and it help.

This time a different vet and nothing. I am a bit worried about tonight and any suggestions welcome - i really dont think it is anxiety or separation and i have not given her any food today. So far she seems fine ( happy as usual).

Is there something wrong with her paws? My old dog used to be a bit like this if he'd been through nettles and stung himself. Constantly worrying and scraping his feet. The biting at fur might just be where her feet are hurting her. Poor little girl.

Paws fine I have checked and she will pull the hair from anywhere if necessary.
No fireworks where i am hesterton so not that.

I think it is some kind of acid in her stomach. She is fine so far tonight and it would normally have started by now so fingers crossed. I may buy some ant acids in case it happens again.

Thank you both very much for the suggestions and the replies. It was horrible to see in such distress.

What breed is she?
Our dogs breed is prone to a thing called a swissy lick, where they compulsively lick surfaces...... They don't really know what causes it, but with ours the odd time he has had them I would say it is when he has an upset or sore stomach.....
Anyway I would be talking to your vet, as with the licking they swallow air which in out breed can lead to bloat .......I would want mine checked out

She was taken straight to the vet mrslaughan.

All was fine last night so i am sure its not separation anxiety. I think its an upset stomach and/or maybe acid in the stomach. I will speak to the vet about this again so we are equipped if it happens again.

because of our breed susceptibility to swissy lick and because we think its becuase of a sore tummy - we add a tree bark powder to his dinner every night - it is made by Dorwest herbs. If he starts licking I make a sloppy paste of it with yoghurt and the trees bark powder and get him to lick it off my hands....this seems ti work really well. Might be worth looking at having this in your doggy first aid/remedy kit?
The other thing that can help is Aloe vera juice.
