Dry food for dog with hip dysplasia

Have seen specialist today with 15 month old lab with hip dysplasia. He doesn't think and operation is required at the moment but we need to manage it with good diet etc. Can anyone recommend a good dry food that's high in Omega fatty acids which would be good for him? He also needs to lose a bit of weight (just like his "mum"!!!).

My dog has mild dysplasia on one side but no signs of arthritis and no obvious signs that anything's wrong

He's fed on Angell salmon and potato - he's doing very well on it - he's fit, lean and active and has a lovely shiny coat

Mine has elbow dysplasia, not hip...I add supplements, he has food intolerances as well so I'm happier knowing he's definitely getting it no matter what food he's having.

I give him yumove, salmon oil and vitamin e.

Orijen and ziwi peak are worth looking at - high meat content, choose the fish varieties. Also give dried fish skin treats.

My 2.5 year old lab has elbow and hip dysplasia and arthritis - we feed Millie's Wolfheart and raw and she's doing well on it. She's also on Onsior anti inflam and Synoquin EFA which makes a hell of a difference

My old english sheepdog has hip dysplasia. Until this weekend he suffered a bit of stiffness. On Sunday i took him to the vets following a week of lameness which coincided with going to the groomers. I was shocked to hear my vet state euthanasia as being an option! I have cried buckets. He is on pain killing meds and is able to move enough to go outside to do his business. He also bought me a slipper when i arrived home earlier...crying again now! Vet said surgery not an option due to being 8 years old and life span for OES only 10-12 yrs. I am at a loss. There is no way i can put him to sleep while he still wags his tale and brings me slippers! Only a few days ago he was plaing with Minnie his jack russell baby sister! The pic on stairs was 3 weeks ago. Any ideas?

You could try micronised linseed. I use it on my horses, it is also good for dogs. It's full of omega 3 6 and 9. And great for joints. The micronised Is the powdered version. Don't feed too much though as it is also used for weight gain Smile

Sorry I'm on my phone but Google the use of turmeric for stiffness in joints, golden paste.

We add it to our ponys feed, a mix of turmeric, black pepper and linseed oil. As a precaution. Keeps joints supple.

Millie's wolf heart here too.

Poinksy - PTS is always offered as an option, my dog's ED was diagnosed at 6 months old, surgery was offered and so was having him PTS.

Is he already on pain relief?

Millie's here too, vast improvement in dog's coat & nails and she's lost weight on it too, although she's been having reduced amounts because she's a chubber.
